Valencia has been considered the European capital of Yachting sport recently, because in 2007 for the first time in history Europe became the place where the world famous America’s Cup regatta was organized. The area of water in the port of Valencia became the so-called “battle place” for the most famous sportsmen.
The coast of Valencia was chosen for the well-known regatta not without purpose. A well regulated infrastructure has been built in Valencia for a long time which can give the ideal opportunity for those who like sailing. Along the coast practically in each great port of Costa Blanca and Costa Azahar there are well-equipped marines which are used as moorings for yachts and besides such necessary things as hotels and even wi-fi access to the Internet. Certainly, you should not forget about the wind which is always favourable in Valencia.
Many marines like the beaches in Valencia have the Blue Flag of the EC, which is a symbol and a sign of purity of the water near the coast and the high level service. Among the yachting clubs with the Blue Flag are the clubs in Altea, Calpa, Denia, Oropesa, Torrevieja and others.
Besides marines there are seafaring stations in Valencia. They serve not only for qualified yachtsmen, but for tourists who would like to hire yachts, to visit diving courses, windsurfing courses and excursions along the seacoast. There are four seafaring stations in Valencia. They are in Alicante, Altea, Denia and Alcosbra. The most interesting among them is the seafaring station in Alcosbra, because besides all other things it offers wonderful voyages to the Columbretean Islands.
Many qualified yachtsmen consider the best part of the coast to be between Gandia and Calpa and the most interesting route to be to the Tabarka Island. The coastal line between Gandia and Calpa is mostly rocky with bright picturesque scenery. In the middle of the route there are Xavea Bays which were considered in the past the favourable place of Spanish Corsairs. In one of the bays called El Pope there is nowadays the main mooring of Xavea. Two others situated to the south of Granadella and Ambolo are calm and cosy bays with pure sea-water surrounded by rocks. There are not many holiday-makers in these bays. Most of the people there are yachtsmen and nudists.
