Santa Pola is famous as one of the best resorts of the Mediterranean coast in Spain. It has all modern conveniences to be an attractive holiday place for tourists of different ages and interests. Students, people with children and pensioners from all over Europe come to Santa Pola to have a rest and entertain themselves.
Santa Pola has got 10 km of wonderful beaches and bays. Some of them are well equipped, others are not equipped at all but really picturesque and colourful. The isle of Tabarka is situated near the coast of Santa Pola. You can go on a tour there at the price of 10 Eur.
In the past this place was one of the fishing villages on the coast. But nowadays most of the population of Santa Pola is in the tourist business. Those who are engaged in fishery organize fishing auctions, which are really interesting for tourists. The tours to Santa Pola are in great demand because of these auctions. They show real national colour of Valencia with heated arguments of the sellers and marvelous variety of products. These auctions make tourists open additional personal accounts in banks and be very attentive to see everything that can be offered to them there.
Santa Pola has not always been a peaceful place and its sights can prove this fact. The most interesting thing is the Citadel which was built in the 16th century to protect local fishermen from pirates. There are some interesting places on the territory of the Citadel, among them the Chapel of Virgin Loretta, The Sea Museum and the Fishery Museum.
Las Salnas are very popular among tourists as well. They are wonderful salt lakes in the vicinity of the resort, which are part of a National Park and where you can see the gigantic colonies of flamingoes. Al Palmer Park is also interesting for tourists because of its picturesque palm-trees just in the centre of the resort.
