Alicante is the most popular province in Valencia. There are such famous resorts as Benidorm, Denia, and Torrevyeha in in Alicante. 6 mln people come to the Alicante Airport every year. Only in such places as Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia the airports are greater.
What is so attractive for tourists in Alicante? Certainly the possibilities to have a nice rest there. The most famous resort in Valencia is Costa Blanca. For the last ten years it has become as famous as Costa Brava and Costa del Sol. There are more “blue flag beaches” there than in any other place in Spain. “Blue Flag” is a special sign in EC for the beaches with high level of purity and with the developed infrastructure.
Nowadays people from different parts of Europe come to Alicante on holidays. Even Spaniards themselves, who know what good holidays mean, come here. Benidorm is called “the beach of Madrid” because it is very popular among the Spaniards.
The quantity of tourists in Alicante has greatly increased since 2000. The reason of it is the opening of one of the biggest entertainment parks which is called Terra Mitica in the vicinity of Benidorm. It is interesting to notice that if we compare fashionable Disneyland with Terra Mitica the latter is not only an entertaining but also an educative park because the main characters here are not the characters of cartoons but real historical personalities which appeared at different time in the Mediterranean region.
There are lots of places in Alicante which are worth visiting. For example, Elche is a so-called “green capital” of the province where the natural park Khuarta del Kura is situated. There is the only palm-tree in the world which is a hermaphrodite in the park. There is also Alda and small beautiful castles. Alcoy is situated there with its famous fancy-dress parade called “Moors and Christians”. The villages along the sea-coast are cosy and picturesque.
The holiday-makers have an opportunity to rent hotels and apart-hotels or apartments but the latter are only in summer time. The most popular are the hotels of Benidorm. Usually 90 % of hotel rooms are occupied. That’s the highest percent in Spain.
