Denia is a popular resort of Costa Blanca region of province Alicante. It is situated at the foot of the Montgo Mountain between the capitals of two provinces - Valencia (97 km) and Alicante (96 km). Denia is a lovely place for summer holidays but besides it is a transit point for travellers who go to the Spanish Islands. Tourists can use a ferry if they travel from Denia to Ibiza, Mallorca and Minorca.
Denia attracts a lot of tourists because it has all modern facilities for summer holidays. Like most of the resorts of Costa Blanca Denia offers a great choice of hotels, apartments and camping-sites. The best hotel is considered to be La Posada del Mar. It is situated in the centre of the city in the building which was founded more than seven centuries ago. That time the custom house was settled in the building of the modern hotel La Posada del Mar.
The main tourist attraction in Denia is the castle which was built in the time of the Moors. It is easy to find it because the information about it is everywhere. Nowadays there is an Archaeological Museum in this castle. In the vicinity of the castle there are some old estates with two-three-storied buidings, the walls of which are of different colours, that produce the effect of peculiar Mediterranean cosiness.
The noisiest district of Denia is El Port near the sea-front of the port. There are some restaurants there, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the harbour. That is for your heart. And for your stomach you can enjoy the famous paella. In many restaurants of Denia they offer different kinds of paella for the tourists to choose which one is the best for him/her.
Denia is known as the capital of one of the most unusual holidays in Spain which is called “Bous a la Mar” that means “the bulls in the water”. If during the corrida the bulls are killed, during Bous a la Mar they are bathed in the sea. If you want to watch or to take part in this holiday you should know that it is held during the last week of August.
