Patró between Hiking Trails and Cultural Heritage
Hiking between Benialà and Alpatró
The PRCV 147 BenialÖAlpatró is a hiking trail approved by the Mountaineering and Climbing Federation of the Valencian Community. With Benialà and Alpatró, it already includes both villages in its name. For a day of hiking, the route connects Benialà and Alpatró. In addition, the Route of the Eight Villages reaches Alpatró via the Font del Llavador Nou and leaves the village via the Joan Pellicer Cultural Centre in the direction of Font Vella. Along its route through Alpatró, the Font del Llavador Nou, the Joan Pellicer Cultural Centre and the direction of Font Vella therefore follow one another.
Castellot on the rugged promontory
The Castellot de Alpatró is a small square tower with a base measuring 5.7 × 5.8 metres. It stands on the summit of a rugged promontory between two gorges. The dimensions of 5.7 × 5.8 metres and the rugged promontory create a contrast between the square shape of the tower and the rugged terrain. From there, the Castellot de Alpatró overlooks the course of the Gallinera River, with Alpatró behind it. The river and Alpatró extend the view from the individual structure into the surrounding landscape. The summit, the promontory and the two gorges define the tower’s location. The view extends across the river towards the village beyond. For those interested in culture, the square shape of the tower, the summit of the rugged promontory and the two gorges are as much part of the view at the Castellot as the river and Alpatró.
Church, cross and early history
The Church of the Assumption of Mary stands in Alpatró. Its parish was founded in 1535. The present-day church was built partly on the remains of an earlier mosque. At the Castellot de Alpatró, the dating remains provisional: it is attributed to the Almohad period shortly before the Christian conquest. La Creu de Terme is located at the beginning of the old access road to Alpatró via La Fillola de Baix. The original La Creu de Terme probably dates from the early 18th century.
Olive mill and village heritage
The Moltó olive mill was purchased and restored by around thirty volunteers from Alpatró. It belonged to the Bella house, which also owned the Bella bread oven, also known as the Gascó oven. This oven still retains its structure. The Museu Almazara de los Moltó is a kind of ethnological museum. At the olive mill, the specific local history therefore includes not only the restored building, but also the Bella house and the preserved oven. The restoration by volunteers also gives the mill a particular connection to Alpatró. For those interested in culture, the focus is on specific structures: the restored olive mill, the Bella house and the oven with its preserved structure.
