Algorfa: Churches, Nature Route and Golf

Algorfa is a destination with different points of interest for your trip: historic churches, a route through protected landscape, golf, as well as dishes served in local bars and restaurants. If you want to weigh up culture, nature, sport and food, you will find clearly distinguishable themes here for your planning.

Churches and Local History

The Ermita de Algorfa is a Neo-Gothic chapel on a small hill near the town centre. It was built in 1910 on the orders of Rafael de Rojas y Galiano, the sixth Marquis of Algorfa. Two-coloured stone from the Algorfa quarry was used in its construction. The parish church Iglesia Parroquial de la Virgen del Carmen was founded in 1755 under the Marquisate of Algorfa and is located in Plaza de España. If you include historic places in your trip, these two churches can form the cultural focus of your planning.

La Caldera del Gigante: Route and Landscape

The approximately 17-kilometre route “La Caldera del Gigante” begins in the Montemar urbanisation in Algorfa. It leads into the protected natural area of Hoyo Serrano, a space of high ecological value with Mediterranean woodland formations and a striking gorge. The Barranco de Calderón extends along the route for 3,270 metres. “La Caldera del Gigante” is a fluvial erosion formation between several pools carved by water into the rocky riverbed. This gives you a clear focus on nature, with woodland formations, a gorge, the barranco and pools.

Over a stretch of 8,000 metres, the route runs towards Benejúzar parallel to the Sotos del Río Segura. If, when planning your trip, you would like to take into account not only the start in Algorfa but also the direction of Benejúzar and this connection with the landscape, this section is one of the route’s notable aspects.

Golf Between Lakes and Vegetation

Golf is also one of Algorfa’s clear themes. La Finca Golf in Algorfa is an 18-hole golf course. Waterfalls and lakes lie along the fairways at the fifth and sixth holes of La Finca Golf. The golf course is surrounded by native vegetation. If you view golf as a travel motive in its own right, this location therefore offers a clearly defined focus alongside culture and nature.

Bars, Restaurants and Your Trip Planning

In Algorfa, you can try dishes in local bars and restaurants. During your stay in Algorfa, you can therefore weigh up whether a cultural focus, exploring the landscape and erosion, golf or food in the town will shape your daily rhythm. When choosing your accommodation, what matters most is which of these themes you want to give the greatest emphasis in your trip planning.
