Finestrat: Puig Campana, Old Town and Coastal Path

Finestrat can be explored through a variety of settings: the Font del Molí recreational area, the old town, and the protected Puigcampana and Ponotx landscape. There is also a coastal path near La Cala de Finestrat. The range extends from mountain scenery and local history to a viewpoint overlooking the Mediterranean.

Hiking around Font del Molí

Route 26, “Volta al Puig Campana”, starts at Font del Molí. From this starting point, a signposted and equipped path leads to the barbecue area and the spring. Numerous hiking trails leading to or around Puig Campana also start at Font del Molí. Font del Molí connects the start of Route 26 with the signposted path to the spring and with further trails around Puig Campana.

The Font del Molí recreational area has parking, toilets and a picnic area with tables and masonry benches. These facilities are part of the area itself and complement the orientation at the starting point of the trails.

Protected landscape around Puigcampana

The protected Puigcampana and Ponotx landscape is shared by Finestrat, Benidorm, La Nucia and Polop. Due to its rich biodiversity and scenic beauty, it was granted special protection status in 2006. Mountain sports and climbing are particularly possible in this landscape.

Old Town, Views and Architectural History

Finestrat’s old town is characterised by hanging houses and narrow streets. It stands on the foundations of a former Muslim castle. A well-known viewpoint in the old town offers views across the entire comarca and of the Mediterranean. The townscape, historical character and panoramic views come together here in a tightly defined urban setting.

Another architectural highlight is the Iglesia Parroquial de San Bartolomé. It was built in the 18th century and inaugurated and blessed in 1751. Its floor plan is shaped like a Latin cross. Baroque and Neoclassical elements come together on the façade.

Festivals with a Long Tradition

The Festes Patronals de Sant Bertomeu i del Crist del Remei de Finestrat are celebrated at the end of August. They have been held for more than one hundred years and include gastronomic tastings. A Path Along the Clifftop

Near La Cala de Finestrat, there is a watchtower accessible via a densely vegetated path. The path runs along a cliff. This stretch of coast provides a distinct accent alongside the trails around Puig Campana and the town’s historic settings: here, you can access a single structure amid lush landscape and a steep coastline.
