Torre Cañada: 17th-century defensive tower

The Torre Cañada defensive tower dates from the 17th century and has been designated as an Asset of Cultural Interest, a Bien de Interés Cultural. Adjacent agricultural buildings have altered the structure; nevertheless, Torre Cañada is in good condition. Anyone examining the building encounters not only the 17th century but also the fabric altered by the adjacent agricultural buildings.

Railway history at the Museo del Ferrocarril de Elche

A second historical perspective is offered by the Museo del Ferrocarril de Elche. It houses original objects from former train and tram companies in the province. Real locomotives are displayed outdoors. There is also a 550-metre-long miniature railway layout. It passes through tunnels and over bridges, as well as alongside stations and viaducts. The museum area therefore presents two scales: real locomotives outdoors and miniature trains on a 550-metre-long layout. Its themes range from the province’s former train and tram companies to model stations and viaducts. The 550-metre-long layout is also structured by tunnels, bridges, stations and viaducts.

Ruta de las Ermitas and religious sites

The Ruta de las Ermitas del Camp d’Elx is a two-day sports and cultural route covering 64.6 kilometres, during which 11 hermitages are visited. Among other places, it leads to the Sant Pere de Torrellano Bajo hermitage. Planning the route therefore requires setting aside two days and 64.6 kilometres as a separate block of time. On the route, the sporting trail and the religious destinations form part of the same itinerary item. With its duration and distance, it constitutes a separate section of the travel plan, while the 11 hermitages incorporate several religious destinations into the route.

Fiestas de Verano: dates and traditions

The Fiestas de Verano take place during the final days of July. Every morning includes street processions accompanied by dolçaina i tabalet. The programme also includes the Mitat de Mitja Marató and a Caliche tournament. The recurring morning opening thus differs from the individual sporting competitions held during the same festival days.

Traditional celebrations in Torrellano also include a procession, a flower-offering ceremony, a firework display and a paella competition.

Torrellano Cup and handball

The Torrellano Cup held its 37th edition in 2026. For 15 years, it has been part of the annual programme project for young referees run by the European Handball Federation and the International Handball Federation. The competition adds an event explicitly focused on handball and referees to Torrellano’s other sporting activities. The annual programme project is specifically aimed at young referees and is connected with the European Handball Federation and the International Handball Federation.

Parish church and regional travel

Torrellano itself is home to the La Purísima parish church on Plaza Santísima Trinidad. Torrellano has a railway station on the Alicante–Murcia commuter line. Alicante–Elche Airport can be reached from Torrellano in approximately five minutes. Both the railway line and the approximate travel time to the airport are therefore relevant for regional travel planning.
