Castillo de Dénia combines several eras: its design dates back to the Islamic period between the 11th and 12th centuries. The complex includes Almohad construction phases, the Torre Roja and the Torre del Consell from the 15th century, as well as fortifications in the Renaissance style. The Palacio del Gobernador was rebuilt during the 16th and 17th centuries under the patronage of the Duke of Lerma, Marquis of Dénia. From Dénia Town Hall, the castle can be reached on foot via the steps on Calle Hospital and Cuesta Madre Amparo; the route then continues to Calle San Francisco, which leads to the castle.

The Archaeological Museum in the historic Casa de la Marquesa de Valero de Palma traces the development of Dénia from its beginnings to the 18th century. In the vicinity of Dénia, you will also find the Museu Etnològic, the Palau del Governador and Subida Al Castillo; all three are museums. Castell de Dénia is a castle in the vicinity of Dénia.

Cova Catxupa is a Neolithic rock shelter approximately 6,000 years old. Its paintings depict archers, hunters, goats and deer and belong to Levantine rock art, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998.

The international creative cuisine competition featuring Dénia's red prawn welcomes more than 50 chefs from around the world every year. The Moros y Cristianos festival in Dénia has also been recognised as a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Autonómico by the Valencian Community. Culture and cuisine therefore do not appear as separate items on an itinerary, but as two different ways of getting to know the character of Dénia.

Beaches, Montgó and Experiences by the Sea

Several beaches are located in the vicinity of Dénia: Playa Denia, Playa de la Marineta Cassiana and Platja Punta del Raset. Playa Del Montañar is a beach in the area around Dénia. Montgó Natural Park stretches between Dénia and Jávea, covers more than 2,000 hectares and is home to more than 650 species of flora and fauna.

A route in Dénia runs along the sea and offers coastal views; swimming, snorkelling and kayaking are possible at Cova Tallada. The Vía Verde de Dénia follows the former FEVE railway line between Carcaixent and Dénia through orange groves parallel to the coast north of the historic town.
