Fuentes de Ayódar lies north of the Sierra de Espadán Nature Park in the Alto Mijares comarca. The village combines water sites, trails through the landscape, and local festival and architectural culture. Water and Landscape

A notable natural destination is Pozo Negro, a deep natural pool in Fuentes de Ayódar. It is located about 2 kilometres from the village centre. After driving there, the remaining route from the car park continues on foot. For your planning, this means that the excursion combines a car journey with a walk.

Fuente del Cañar has a recreational area with picnic tables. Fuente de la Masá lies beneath the canopy of a monumental mastic shrub and has two outlets. Fuente del Zuro is located in an attractive natural setting a few metres from the Río Chico. The experience “Fuentes de Ayódar: el agua y la humanidad” includes short out-and-back routes around Fuentes de Ayódar. The meeting point is in Fuentes de Ayódar; the routes initially pass through natural areas by the river and then continue along the water to old structures built for harnessing water power. In this way, the experience combines the natural environment with traces of earlier water management.

Connections and Trails

The CV-205 runs from Onda via Artesa, Tales, Suera and Ayódar to Fuentes de Ayódar, where it ends. Mountain bike routes and trails cross the municipal area and connect it with Torrechiva and Torralba del Pinar.

Local History and Architecture

At Las Eras, an old restored barn was converted into an Ethnological Museum with the support of the local population. The former Molino de Arriba dates from the 15th century, is located next to an irrigation reservoir and was recently restored. El Cubo is a square former wine press where grapes were processed; grapes were common in this area during the Middle Ages.

The bell tower of Fuentes de Ayódar has a square floor plan and a spiral staircase with 64 steps leading to the belfry. For visitors interested in culture, it offers a precise interplay of form, staircase and belfry.

Festivals Throughout the Year

San Antón is celebrated in Fuentes de Ayódar on 17 January with an animal blessing, traditional roles, a large bonfire and the communal singing of the jota around the fire. The patron saint festivities in honour of San Roque and the Assumption take place during the week around 15 August and include cultural and sporting events, music, communal meals and activities for children.
