Old Town and Landscape

Xert’s Poble Vell features narrow streets, arcaded squares and buildings dating from the 13th century. The landscape provides a different accent: extensive areas of dry farming often stretch as far as terraced slopes beside the Molas.

Routes and Adventure Sports

La Moleta is a destination for via ferrata enthusiasts. There is also a dedicated experience underground: In the caves of Xert, including Avenc de Comanegra, cavers can pursue their activities. In addition, 40.000 aventures has a base in Xert and specializes in adventure sports.

A well-defined way to experience the landscape is the circular route through the Muelas de Xert. It is 11.79 km long, has an elevation gain of 394 m and starts and ends at Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The route through the Muelas de Xert is designated for hiking, cycle tourism and mountain biking (BTT). At 11.79 kilometres and with 394 metres of elevation gain, the circular route provides two concrete figures for personal day planning on site. Historic Buildings

The history of Xert includes the Iglesia Parroquial de la Asunción. It was built at the end of the 13th century and remodelled in the 17th century by the architect Esteve Ganaut. Its bell-shaped side façade from the 15th century has an archivolt. The Palacio de los Condes de Pestagua was built and owned by the Felié family; one branch of the family settled in Xert in the 17th century. The Palacio consists of two parts: one known as the “casa del metge García” and a monumental, more elaborate section owned by the San Marcos agricultural cooperative.

In the immediate vicinity of Xert is the preserved complex of the Ermitorio de San Pedro y San Marcos de la Barcella, with a church, the hermit’s dwelling, the entrance hall of the hostel and a watchtower. On the Mola Murada, hiking trails lead across an archaeological site, allowing nature and cultural experiences to be combined on one route.

Regional Cuisine

Xert also has its own culinary profile. Traditional dishes include the meat dish “al tombet”, “rotllets d'aiguardent” and “quallada”. For visitors, cheese, cognac and olive oils are also among the local products from Xert.
