Experience Rivers and Gorges
The Ruta fluvial del Júcar is a boat trip between Cofrentes and Cortes de Pallás. A boat purchased by the Ayuntamiento de Cofrentes can accommodate 50 passengers and covers the 14 kilometres of the Cortes reservoir in just over an hour. The trip begins at the former Embarcaderos dam, where there is a landing stage, parking, a covered waiting and rest area, and an information and ticket sales point.
The Tren Turístico de Cofrentes also follows the course of the Cabriel and provides access to natural attractions in the municipality and its surroundings. The Cañones del Júcar illustrate the area's landscape particularly clearly: there, the river runs between high, sheer rock walls. This landscape can be explored by boat or on hiking trails. For birdwatching, routes run especially along the banks of the Cabriel and the Júcar.
Hiking, Cycling and Distinctive Landscapes
Hikers have access to a network of trails totalling 57 kilometres in Cofrentes. The trails pass through the varied landscapes of Monte Alcola, along the Cabriel, by the former mining site of the Cerro de Agras volcano and around the Hervideros de Cofrentes thermal spa. Cerro de Agras is a volcano site open to visitors and is considered the only geologically young volcano in the Comunitat Valenciana.
The Centro BTT comprises nine signposted routes that pass through Cofrentes and surrounding towns; together, these routes cover approximately 259 kilometres. In addition, Cofrentes offers mono-rafting trips on the Cabriel as well as guided cycling and hiking tours. This allows you to divide your days according to your interests between independent trails, a guided tour and an experience on the river.
Local History and Traditional Heritage
The Ruta urbana through Cofrentes is suitable for all visitor groups and leads to the town's most representative cultural, heritage and historic features. These include the Parroquia de San José, which was built in 1621 on the former site of the mosque of Cofrentes. After the expulsion of the Moriscos at the beginning of the 17th century, the Castillo de Cofrentes was transformed by Pedro Centelles de Borja into a palatial residence.
Another historical trace is the Cueva de Santa Ana. It is a former wine press where agricultural products and products from home slaughtering were stored. Cofrentes also preserves a tradition known as the Maderada, celebrated during the May festivities and recalling the work of lumberjacks between the 14th and 18th centuries. The tour through the town therefore ranges from architectural history to the working worlds of past centuries.
