L'Alcúdia between Cultural Heritage, Nature and Regional Cuisine

L'Alcúdia combines impressive buildings, museums, archaeological traces and paths through a landscape shaped by nature and persimmon cultivation. This creates a destination where you can give different emphasis to culture, active pursuits and regional cuisine.

Historic Buildings

The Aqüeducte de Santa Bàrbara was built in 1842 as part of L'Alcúdia's irrigation system. The 260-metre-long structure overcomes a three-metre difference in elevation for irrigation and is comprehensively protected. Today, it is known as Hort de Manus; its origins date back to the beginning of the 17th century.

The Temple Sant Andreu Apòstol is an 18th-century church that is locally nicknamed “la Catedral de la Ribera” because of its great size. The foundation stone was laid on 30 November 1746.

Museums and Archaeological Traces

The Museu de la Música is housed in the restored Casa de la Solera, a former manor house typical of the 18th century. The permanent exhibition displays musical instruments donated by the master Manuel Celdrán. The Museu Etnològic de l'Alcúdia is also located in the Casa de la Solera. It documents part of L'Alcúdia's more recent collective history and displays agricultural tools organised according to manual labour and animal traction.

Els Évols is an Iberian necropolis in the municipality of L'Alcúdia dating from the 4th to the 1st century BC. Further archaeological pieces from L'Alcúdia are displayed in the Biblioteca Municipal.

Cycling and Landscape Routes

Different route lengths and landscape perspectives are the focus when planning by bicycle. The Volta a Tous starts in L'Alcúdia and is 51.72 kilometres long. It offers views of part of the mountains with significant natural heritage. The 107.9-kilometre circular route Volta a la Ribera del Xúquer passes through L'Alcúdia, connects the coast with the inland areas and provides opportunities to visit cultural heritage sites.

The Ruta del Caqui combines cultural heritage with the landscape of the Ribera del Xúquer, which is shaped by persimmon cultivation. The natural area known as Els Fornals is also located near L'Alcúdia. The PARATGES environmental route is a walk around a local natural area where you can learn about habitats and the species found there. L'Alcúdia also participates in the PARATGES-RUTES MEDIAMBIENTAL DE LA RIBERA programme, organised by the Consorci de la Ribera, with guided visits to natural sites or areas of particular ecological value in the Ribera del Xúquer.

The Fira Gastronòmica de l'Alcúdia has taken place continuously since 1995, giving regional cuisine a firm place in local life.
