Calpe is considered to be one of the most expensive pearls in a string of pearl resorts in Costa Blanca. Three local beaches are the best all over Spain. In the past it was a small shabby fishing village. Nowadays it is a modern tourist centre which offers magnificent views of the Mediterranean Coast. These views known as “the places in the Garden of Eden” can be seen in the posters of thousands of tourist agencies all over the world.
The symbol of Calpe is Ifach Mountain. It is situated at the extremity of a small cape in the northern part of the resort. The mountain is in the National Park. Those tourists who will make themselves go 300 meters up through a tunnel in the mountain and climb on its top, will see a wonderful view of Costa Blanca. They say, that if the weather is fine, you will see Ibitsa from the top of Ifach. Pay attention to the fact that the entrance is requiring payment. At the foot of Ifach there is a small pebble beach. It is a popular place among those who are fond of diving in Calpe.
The cape is also a nice place for yachtsmen. In the Royal Yachting Club everybody can rent a small boat or a yacht or order a cruise along the coast to Benidorm, which is considered to be the capital or the main city in Costa Blanca.
Nowadays Calpe is a unique combination of ancient and modern time. Such things as Iglesia Vieja Church, the ruins of the Arabian Citadel, the remains of the Roman villa and the fishing port exist together with great modern luxurious hotels, sporting centres and night clubs.
In Calpe, like in any other resort of Costa Blanca you may rent private apartments and villas. But if you go on holidays in summer it is better to rent a house or a flat in advance, say, at the beginning of March. Otherwise all the dwellings can be occupied.
Tourists can go in for different activities there. The best beaches for family holidays are Al Raco, Puerto Blanco, Gapsparet and others. For active holidays there are tennis courts, a swimming-pool, windsurfing equipment, yachts, diving equipment. For those who like excursions there are museums, such as the Archaeological Museum and the Ethnographical Museum, the Museum of Comics which is the most popular museum among the young tourists.
