Discover Abdet: Hiking, Gorges and Valencian Heritage

Abdet combines a village centre characterised by narrow streets with natural attractions and the Valencian pelota tradition. The Church of San Vicente Ferrer is part of the centre of L’Abdet. The Trinquet de L’Abdet dates from 1772 and is considered one of the oldest trinquets in the Valencian Community. In Abdet, the “pilota grossa” variant of Valencian pelota is played. The balls are larger than a tennis ball and are hand-sewn with a core made of fabric and goatskin.

Local History and Festivals

The annual festival calendar also gives L’Abdet a clear cultural identity. Every year, a festival in honour of San Vicente Ferrer takes place during the last week of Easter. Summer festivities in honour of the Virgen de las Dolores follow on the third weekend of August. Another historical landmark is the Lavadero de L’Abdet: the restored communal washhouse is located about 200 metres from the village centre. For those interested in culture, this means that, alongside the church, trinquet and washhouse, there are also two fixed dates in the annual calendar.

Hiking Between Summit and Caves

The Creueta del Penyó crowns L’Abdet. A large cross stands at its summit, offering wide views of the surrounding area. A cave lies halfway up the ascent to the Creueta del Penyó. For hikers, this area combines a specific climb with a distinctive destination and a notable natural feature.

The Circular de Mela is one of the hiking routes from L’Abdet. Hiking routes also lead from L’Abdet towards Confrides and Beniardà. The Barranco del Llop is described as another gorge in the area of Confrides and L’Abdet. The Barranco del Sord is one of the most frequently visited gorges there.

Landscape Around L’Abdet

The Font de l’Arbre recreational area lies within the municipality in the Sierra de Aitana at an altitude of about 1,200 metres. It is part of the PR-CV20 and PR-CV21 routes. In the area of the Barranco del Fanalic, the river plunges through the gorge as a waterfall during rainy periods. When planning a visit, it should also be taken into account that the waterfall in the Barranco del Fanalic depends on rainy periods. The Pericos Cave covers more than 1,000 square metres and features narrow passages and large galleries.

A Challenging Tour to Pla de la Casa

A physically demanding circular route leads from L’Abdet to Pla de la Casa at an altitude of 1,385 metres; it is 16.3 kilometres long, includes 960 metres of elevation gain and has an estimated duration of 6 to 7 hours.
