Teulada: Walled History and Protected Landscape
Teulada combines a historically shaped town centre with protected landscapes, a regional winemaking tradition and practical options for culture- and nature-focused days. At its heart is the Teulada gótica amurallada, designated as an Asset of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural, BIC) in the category of Historic Ensemble.
Walled History and Religious Buildings
La Vila is a historic, walled settlement with a regular layout adapted to the topography of its hill. The Teulada gótica amurallada ensemble was built from Tosca stone and preserves original architectural elements such as arches and barrel vaults. The combination of the walls, the hilltop topography and the preserved structural elements gives the town’s history a clearly recognisable form.
At the heart of Teulada stands the Iglesia Parroquial de Santa Catalina Mártir. It dates from the late 16th century and was a fortified church that offered refuge to the Moriscos. The site thus represents both religious architecture and the historical function of a fortified place of worship.
The Sala de Jurats i JustÃcies houses the Centre d’estudis Vicentins, features a sundial dating from 1639 on its façade and is a stop on the Ruta Vicentina.
Tradition, Olive Oil and Regional Festivals
The Ecomuseo L'ALMASSERA is located in a former oil mill and wine press. It is part of the Centre Ecomuseogrà fic, which aims to revive traditional occupations and skills; audiovisual projections illustrate the production process there.
The Ermita de la Font Santa also adds to the cultural picture. It lies halfway between Teulada and Moraira and is a pilgrimage site. The hermitage contains a spring which, according to popular tradition, sprang forth through a saint.
The annual calendar includes two festivals with distinct themes: the Fiesta del Moscatel of Teulada/Moraira takes place in August and celebrates the region’s winemaking tradition. The Fiestas Patronales de Teulada take place in April in honour of San Vicente Ferrer. Cultural themes therefore range from winegrowing to religious festival traditions.
Les Sorts and Signposted Routes
The Vall de les Sorts adds a distinctive landscape feature. It is a protected landscape covering areas within the municipality of Teulada. The protected area of Les Sorts covers approximately 100 hectares and is characterised by the contrast between a valley with a flat floor and the surrounding undulating terrain.
The route passes the Font de l'Horta, a spring with two outlets. The Creueta de l'Ave MarÃa is the first stop for hikers on the route, and a signposted route leads from Teulada to Benimarco.
