La NucÃa combines mountain bike routes, nature observation and local history. CEM El Captivador is a visitor-oriented complex that uses educational, tourism and sociocultural programs to convey the natural, Mediterranean and local history of La NucÃa.
Mountain bike routes with varying levels of difficulty
For mountain bike enthusiasts, La NucÃa’s BTT network includes four circular routes with varying levels of difficulty. The routes start at a trailhead with a bicycle repair station, route maps and information boards, and lead through the Bike Park. It is designed as a forest park for mountain bikes and features five downhill runs and wooden elements designed for different skill levels.
Hiking, viewpoints and nature observation
La NucÃa’s network of hiking trails includes rest and picnic areas, viewpoints, birdwatching hides, observation towers, recreational areas and an accessible route. In addition, there are four signposted paths with a total length of 21 km. The Senda Local is a 14.13 km-long route leading through La NucÃa’s natural, historical and cultural attractions. The accessible Senda Adaptada El Captivador is 520 m long and includes a birdwatching hide, a rest and picnic area, a wooden bridge and a display of native plant species.
Font de la Favara features a five-metre-high waterfall, a garden with native species, a picnic area, swings and panoramic views of La NucÃa and the comarca. At the CEM El Captivador arboretum, the focus is on plant diversity. The botanical garden is dedicated to its preservation, study and interpretation, complementing the town’s nature-related attractions.
History at notable sites
La NucÃa’s history can be experienced through individual buildings and sites. The Ermita de Sant Vicent del Captivador was built in 1804. On Plaça Major, the Iglesia de la PurÃsima Concepción dates from the 18th century. Its stone staircase recalls the former importance of quarrying and stonecutting in La NucÃa.
Another facet of the town’s history is revealed by the Llavador de la Favara. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century to enable some of La NucÃa’s residents to collect water and wash clothes. This was before La NucÃa’s houses were connected to the water supply in the 1960s. The Llavador was restored in 2023 and enhanced as a tourist and cultural attraction.
Culture, festivals and regional traditions
The Museo Etnológico José Soler features a permanent exhibition in three rooms, as well as an outdoor exhibition. Its themes range from traditional culture and customs to the comarca’s traditional occupations and crafts, as well as agriculture and livestock farming. The Auditori de la Nucia offers residents and tourists performances of ballet, dance, music and theatre, including shows by international artists.
La NucÃa’s main August feast days take place from 14 to 18 August in honour of the Virgen de la Asunción and San Roque and include processions, concerts, a fancy-dress parade and mascletaes, among other events; tourists can also take part. La NucÃa’s Mercado Medieval has been held since 2005 on the weekend closest to 9 July. Every Sunday, La NucÃa also hosts a large flea market for second-hand goods on Avenida Porvilla.
Sports destination and getting there
Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Cano is the central venue of La NucÃa Ciudad del Deporte, which offers numerous sports activities and facilities in natural surroundings. By car, La NucÃa can be reached via the A-7 Mediterranean motorway, exit 65. The N-332 connects the town with Alicante and Valencia. The nearest bus stations are in Benidorm, 8.6 km away, and Alicante, 51.8 km away.
