Sant Vicent Del Raspeig: Church, Museums and Green Spaces

Sant Vicent Del Raspeig combines a distinctive historic townscape with extensive green spaces and specific opportunities for hiking and cycling. Museums, festivals and a regional specialty complete the picture.

Architecture, Museums and Festivals

The Iglesia de San Vicente Ferrer was built in 1803 over an older hermitage. It is neoclassical and located on Plaza de España. The church and square therefore connect a specific place with a clearly recognizable historical theme.

The MUA holds around twenty temporary exhibitions per season. The Museo del Ferrocarril displays historical material from San Vicente's former railway station, including signs, photographs and parts of the former station furnishings. The Museo de la Universidad de Alicante presents changing scientific, artistic and cultural-historical exhibitions.

The festivals also have their own distinctive features. During Moros y Cristianos, there is a musical band parade; at the castle gate, staged Moorish and Christian messages are presented, followed by a battle. During Les Fogueres, decorated streets are among the oldest and most beautiful traditions. The Cremà involves burning the festival monuments made of cardboard, stone or wood; this brings the festival to an end.

Green Spaces and Wildlife

The Jardín Vertical is six storeys high and covers 340 square metres, with 34,000 specimens planted on the wall. Selected native herbaceous and shrub species with low water and maintenance requirements are used.

The Parque Presidente Adolfo Suárez covers 80,000 square metres. It includes wooded areas, meadows, two artificial lagoons and wetlands. The Ruta del Sabinar - Minas de Ocre runs entirely through the ZEPA Riu Montnegre, a special bird protection area, and passes through the Valle del Sabinar and the Barrancos del Juncaret and del Cocons. More than 100 different breeding, resident and migratory bird species have been recorded in the area.

Hiking and Cycling

The linear hiking trail PR-CV 282 Camí de la Sendera is 19.39 km long and associated with Sant Vicent del Raspeig/San Vicente del Raspeig as its reference municipality. It begins in Parque Hort lo Torrent and ends at the crossing of the Cañada Real in Platet de Tochar.

Parque Lo Torrent has a mountain biking course. Bicisanvi is a free municipal bicycle rental service promoted by the San Vicente del Raspeig Town Council.

Olive Oil Tradition and Local Cuisine

The Museo Didáctico del Aceite offers a guided tour explaining the traditional olive oil production process. On Tuesday lunchtime, it is traditional to eat “putxero amb tarongetes”. The culinary journey thus ranges from an informative look at production to a firmly established meal.
