Landscape Between Mountains and Sea
Part of the municipality of Rossell lies within the Parc Natural de la Tinença de Benifassà. At the same time, the municipality encompasses mountain, upland, and lowland areas.
The Ermita de Sant Marc lies in a pine grove overlooking the Mediterranean. There is also a covered shelter with ten fireplaces at the hermitage. The Sant Marc panoramic information board offers views of the landscape of the southern Maestrat. At Sant Marc, the pine grove with Mediterranean views, the outlook over the southern Maestrat, and the covered shelter with ten fireplaces come together.
The Ruta dels Miradors in the Municipality
The Ruta dels Miradors is a tourist loop route through the municipality of Rossell. Along the route, panoramic information boards provide information about the landscape.
The route can be driven by car. A drive along the loop can therefore be planned as one continuous route; the panoramic information boards accompany the course with information about the landscape.
The municipality of Rossell provides information about routes in its municipal area and GPS tracks. There are also guided routes in the Parc Natural de la Tinença de Benifassà. GPS tracks supplement the municipality’s route information with a digital form of navigation, while guided routes in the nature park focus on exploration with a guide.
Churches, a Cave, and Mill History
The Cova de les Bruixes contains Neolithic remains and is therefore one of the archaeological points of reference in Rossell.
The parish church of Sant Jaume de Bel is considered the clearest example of Romanesque architecture in the comarca thanks to its portal. The parish church of Rossell has a Baroque façade with Classicist influences and is attributed to the 18th century.
The Centro Cívico “Molí Vell” stands on the site of a former olive mill. Today, it houses exhibitions, meetings, and various activities of local associations. On the ground floor are the last millstones and part of the restored equipment used to mill olives in the 1950s and 1960s. The building thus connects the former olive mill site with the preserved parts of the restored equipment and its present-day use by local associations.
A historic site in Rossell served mainly as a grain mill, fulling mill, and power station.
Fira and Pastisset
The Fira Multisectorial de Sant Josep has been held in Rossell since 1991. The pastisset is considered an emblematic sweet pastry of the local baking tradition. In Rossell, festival culture and baking tradition therefore stand side by side as two distinct local points of reference.
