Street Art
MIAU comprises more than 170 artistic interventions in the streets of Fanzara. They were created by 124 artists over the course of ten festival editions. Walking through the streets, you can experience MIAU as a museum without doors or exhibition rooms. The art does not appear in a single exhibition, but is spread throughout the town.
MIAU offers guided tours and workshops involving artistic activities in the field of urban art for schools, groups, associations, families and groups of friends. These formats place a clear emphasis on shared experiences and hands-on creative work.
Religious Architecture and Historical Traces
Historical remains can be found in Fanzara in various forms. The Ermita del Santo Sepulcro has an extension with a Greek-cross floor plan, covered by a dome and decorated with blue glazed tiles. The Ruinas Castellet preserve several sections of wall, the structure of the main tower and the bases of two square towers. Ruinas Castellet was probably a small secondary watch post used to monitor a route or path.
The Poblado de Cantalobos consists of the ruins of a settlement dating from the Late Bronze Age. The settlement is dated to between the 7th and 6th centuries BC and extends across the municipalities of Fanzara and Sueras. Its historical perspective therefore extends beyond Castellet's visible remains and also encompasses a significantly earlier settlement period.
Trails, Views and Natural Features
The Ermita del Santo Sepulcro can be reached via a steep path with Stations of the Cross; its elevated location offers exceptional views. For your planning, this access route is an important difference from the attractions that can be experienced directly in the streets of Fanzara. The Cueva de la Muela is a cave formed by natural erosion in limestone terrain. A collapse inside the Cueva de la Muela prevents access beyond the first section.
The Mijares is also among the area's natural attractions. Molino Bota is one of the natural pools along the Mijares, known in Fanzara as “badinas”. Especially when compared with the art and history attractions, this shows how varied the points of interest are for a stay in Fanzara.
Annual Festivals
The Fiestas Patronales de Fanzara, held in honour of Santo Sepulcro, the Virgen de Monserrat and San Roque, take place on the second Sunday in October. The San Antón festival includes the blessing of the animals, a horse race called “matxà ”, in which the horses avoid several bonfires lit at different locations around the town, as well as the bonfires themselves.
