Discover Caudete de las Fuentes: History, Wine and Trails

Caudete de las Fuentes combines ecclesiastical architectural heritage, the Kelin archaeological site, wine experiences, local festivities and trails through the municipality. The parish church of the Nativity of Our Lady was begun in 1731 and consecrated in 1735.

Church, Kelin and Museum

The rectangular Neoclassical building has an octagonal dome. The Kelin archaeological site, also known as Los Villares, lies on a gentle hill approximately 800 metres high near Caudete de las Fuentes and covers around 10 hectares.

The archaeological site contains urban structures from a Proto-Iberian phase dating to the 7th century BC and a fully Iberian phase dating from the 4th to the 2nd century BC.

The Luis García de Fuentes Permanent Museum Collection is open to the public. It preserves finds from the ancient city of Kelin. The ancient city of Kelin is thus connected both with the site and with the collection. Local Tradition and Landscape

Pascua de Monas is a local tradition held on the first and second Sunday after Easter. People go outdoors, spend the day there and eat the typical Mona de Pascua.

Local festivities also include free open-air dance events at the Paseo de la Alameda.

The Río Madre is a tributary of the Magro and its first stable watercourse. It crosses the municipality from west to east.

Wine and Regional Cuisine

The “Cata dinámica” experience includes a white wine tasting under a centuries-old holm oak, weather permitting, as well as a visit to the winery to learn about winemaking. Two red wines are then tasted, followed by the house vermouths.

Casa Doñana invites visitors to tour the estate and walk among its vineyards. The “De la viña a la copa” experience includes a typical lunch featuring local cuisine.

Local cuisine appears in different forms in both wine experiences: the “Cata dinámica” tasting includes a small snack made from local products, while “De la viña a la copa” includes a typical lunch.

Trails and Getting There

Those planning to hike the SL-CV 187 trail start at Parque de la Fuente Grande in Caudete de las Fuentes. The trail follows the Camino de la Lana towards the Cañada Honda micro-reserve.

One stage of the Camino de Santiago also includes an alternative route through Caudete de las Fuentes.

The Autovía de Levante (Madrid–Valencia) is the main access road.
