Enguera Between Cultural Heritage and Landscape
Enguera combines local history, nature experiences and regional products. Those looking to discover a place with many different facets will find sacred art, historic structures, Mediterranean landscapes, traditional craftsmanship and an experience centred on organic olive oil.
The historic centre of Enguera is home to a 17th-century archpriest church, stately homes, a Carmelite monastery and several squares. A street layout in the Arab style also shapes the townscape, making a walk through the historic core varied and engaging.

History, Art and Townscape
Today’s parish church of San Miguel Arcángel was built over an older temple dating from the time of James I. The church also houses the Retablo de la Virgen de Gracia, a Renaissance panel from the 15th century. At the Museo Enológico Enguera, the detailed reconstruction of a typical house and a typical square in Enguera is presented as a depiction of several periods from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the second half of the 20th century. The museum also includes a collection on Enguera’s textile industry from the 18th to the 21st century.
Natural Area and Distinctive Trails
Enguera is characterised by ravines, hills, beautiful mountain landscapes, valuable archaeological treasures and Mediterranean woodland of pines and holm oaks. As the municipal natural area of Umbría La Plana, the site covers 426.28 hectares and has ecological, landscape, scientific and recreational value. It contains largely naturally developed pine stands, while the ravines and shaded areas are characterised by dense, diverse vegetation. Endangered animal species are also found there.
A short hiking trail through the Umbría La Plana natural area provides access to five significant cultural heritage resources. Another local route is the Cucos Route: it starts at the ADENE premises next to the El Vapor industrial area on the Camino de la Fuente Cáñez, and the first Cuco that can be visited is located in the ADENE garden. The route start and the first Cuco thus form a spatial sequence on site. The Cucos of the Sierra de Enguera are small and medium-sized dry-stone structures in the dry fields.
Olive Oil, Craftsmanship and More Experiences
An organic olive oil experience in Enguera includes taking part in the olive harvest, insights into the production process, an olive oil tasting and a meal featuring local products. Participants also receive a bottle of organic olive oil as part of this experience.
The Feria de San Gil includes tourism and craft fairs during the same week. There, visitors can watch lace makers create tablecloths, curtains and mats. For active pursuits, the 300-metre-long Via Ferrata Fuente Godalla is also located near a castle.
