In Torrent, historic buildings, cultural sites and paths through varied landscapes come together. This makes the town interesting for you if you would like to get to know Valencia not only through city visits, but also through regional history, nature observation and excursions.
A notable landmark is La Torre de Torrent. The tower has a square floor plan, is 22 m high and comprises five interior floors. It served as a refuge for the inhabitants and their property. On 6 June 2001, La Torre de Torrent was included in Spain’s historical heritage as a Bien de Interés Cultural.
Historic Traces in the Town
Hiking Between the Old Town and the Countryside
For a walk, the straight SL-CV 123 Camà del Xorro hiking trail, which has a low difficulty level, is a good option. It runs through the Barranc de l’Horteta. Along the way, you pass historic irrigation structures: the Xorro spring and mine, the Arquillo and Canyes arches, and the restored dam of the Torrent reservoir. The SL-CV 159 begins in the centre of Torrent and initially runs through the old town. It then leads through El Vedat and to the Marxadella and Canyada del Conill recreational areas. Information panels accompany an educational trail about flora and fauna; the route also has four recreational areas with picnic and children’s areas.
Torrent also offers a clear connection to the countryside for cycling. The BTT1 cycling route follows quiet rural paths through Torrent’s former dry-farming area. It heads towards the summit of the Sierra Perenxisa, which is designated as a flora micro-reserve.
Museums and Regional Memory
The cultural sites provide a deeper insight into the history of the surrounding area. The Museo Comarcal de l’Horta Sud Josep FerrĂs March is located in Ca l’Estudiant de Boqueta, a former farmhouse from the first decade of the 20th century. Its permanent exhibition presents the way of life of a family from l’Horta Sud whose livelihood was predominantly based on working the land. In the Casa Museo de la Semana Santa, a central nave covering more than 1,400 m² houses the processional figures arranged chronologically according to the Passion. The museum is currently recognised as a ColecciĂłn Museográfica by the Valencian Community. By arrangement, it organises visits for school groups, associations and private groups.
Garden, Festival and Valencian Tradition
Hort de TrĂ©nor is a historic garden and is classified as a Bien de Relevancia Local. It includes a Neo-Gothic chapel and garden areas representing the flora of the Valencian Community, including Mediterranean woodland and cork oak and holm oak areas. Semana Santa in Torrent is recognised by the Generalitat Valenciana as a Fiesta de InterĂ©s TurĂstico AutonĂłmico. “El rossejat” is associated with it as a traditional dish of this festival day.
Torrent is connected to Valencia via the metro network.
