Geology and River Landscape

Nature observation and geology have their own focal point in Sot de Chera with El Anticlinal.

The character of the place is particularly vivid at El Anticlinal. The geological landmark displays an almost perfect fold between several layers of rock. For interested non-specialists, this provides a tangible way to access the landscape: its form tells of geological structures that can be directly perceived as a distinctive feature in their own right.

At La Canal, the river forms natural pools surrounded by dense vegetation. Another distinctive area is located along the Río de Sot: the public area is popularly known as “Charco El Gruñidor”. In winter, it is used as a pleasant walking route; in summer, for swimming.

Castillo and Ecclesiastical Heritage

For those interested in culture, Sot de Chera offers a range extending from protected sections of walls and a square tower to the church and the oil press of Almazara del Conde.

The Castillo de Sot de Chera is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Monument category and is listed in the General Register of Cultural Heritage Assets of Spain’s historical heritage. Sections of the walls and the remains of a square tower have been preserved. Anyone wishing to visit this site can do so free of charge with prior reservation.

The Iglesia de San Sebastián Mártir also brings together several historical layers. It is designed in the late Baroque style while also pointing toward Neoclassicism; it was completed in 1695. The Sagrario Triptych and the church’s altarpiece are attributed to Juan de Juanes.

Museum and Traditional Oil Production

La Almazara del Conde is a small museum. On display is an oil press that was used for traditional oil production. This museum can also be visited free of charge with prior reservation.

Hiking Trails and Current Status

For hiking plans in Sot de Chera, the status of the trails is a separate consideration. The Río Sot route is currently impassable. By contrast, the approved short-distance hiking trail PR-CV 414 CUESTA LARGA runs through the surroundings of the Cuevas del Morrón and the Fuente Fetge recreation area. Hiking and nature topics can therefore be weighed separately in Sot de Chera according to the status of Río Sot and PR-CV 414.

When choosing a hotel or other accommodation, you can therefore consider Sot de Chera according to your preferred focus: geological formations, river landscapes, cultural heritage, museum or hiking topics. These focuses offer different reasons for a visit, without implying anything about specific accommodation features or availability.

For further location options, you can choose from Venta Del Moro, Xeraco, Segart, Petrés, Albalat de la Ribera, Carlet, Rugat and Alaquas.
