Torres-Torres: Heritage, Routes and Landscape

Torres-Torres brings together sacred architectural heritage, historic baths, water engineering, selected route connections and a diverse landscape. Between orange groves, almond, carob and olive groves, as well as mountainous terrain with pine trees and scrubland, a townscape emerges that closely combines cultural and rural themes.

Sacred Architectural Heritage and Special Buildings

The Parroquia Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles visibly brings together several periods. Its construction began in 1684 to replace an earlier 13th-century church. The church is predominantly Baroque; the transept and presbytery were added as extensions in the 19th century in the Neoclassical style. The dome was designed in 1799 and built in 1828. For your visit, this building therefore provides specific points of reference for considering the development of the town over several centuries.

Among the independent historic buildings are the Baños Árabes de Torres-Torres. They comprise three parallel, vaulted rooms traditionally referred to as the cold, warm and hot rooms. Star-shaped skylights with a truncated-pyramidal cross-section at the springing of the vaults provided lighting from the intrados. The Baños Árabes were declared a National Monument in 1938.

The Cisterna is directly connected with the baths through its former function. It consists of two barrel-vaulted rooms separated by a wall with three round arches. The Cisterna served to supply both the baths and the population with water.

Routes for Different Forms of Travel

Route connections are also part of Torres-Torres's profile. The Valencian section of the Vía Verde de Ojos Negros passes through the town. The Vía Verde can be used on foot, by bicycle or in a wheelchair, apart from individual ramps outside the original route. This makes it possible to take different forms of travel into account when planning a trip, without reducing the route to just one activity. Torres-Torres is also part of the “La conquista de Valencia” section of the Camino del Cid.

The Castillo de Torres-Torres dominates the horizon from a hilltop. The patron-saint festivities of Torres-Torres take place in September, particularly between 7 and 10 September. The programme includes dances, processions and musical accompaniment by brass bands. The town is also associated with characteristic dishes: these include arroz al horno, paella, the traditional Good Friday stew and les llesquetes amb ou.
