Cultural history in specific places

The Museu Etnològic Comarcal de la Vall d’Albaida is divided into six thematic areas and contains almost 600 objects. The collection is housed in a three-storey building. You will find the museum at Parc Francisco Ferri 1 in Benissoda; visits are possible by prior arrangement. The Iglesia de la Natividad de la Ntra. Señora stands on the site of a former Islamic oratory and forms part of the 17th-century Natividad parish church. Its bell tower was built at the end of the 19th century and is considered a Mannerist structure unique in the Vall d’Albaida. This church building therefore brings together a former Islamic place of worship, a 17th-century parish church and a bell tower constructed at a later date.

The Almazara de la Aljama «La Comunidad» is also part of the area’s historical diversity. It was a large Moorish oil mill dating from the mid-16th century. Alongside the history of the church, this also brings the history of oil production into view.

Festivals with their own traditions

Benissoda also showcases its traditions through its festivals. During the Revetla dels Fanalets, traditional Fanalets are brought into the streets of Benissoda, and participants walk through the town to accompanying music. The traditional patron-saint festivals in honour of the Mare de Déu del Rosari, Sant Domènec and Santa Bàrbara take place in mid-August. This gives your travel planning two different cultural focal points: a procession through the town accompanied by music and festival traditions held during a set period in mid-August.

Hiking through orchards and terraces

For outdoor activity, the local hiking trail “Benissoda i la Font del Patge” offers a compact route. It is less than 10 kilometres long and begins next to the municipal sports centre on Avenida del Baladrar. The trail passes through a large part of the orchards, vegetation and agricultural terraces within the municipality. Olive, pine and carob trees are highlighted along the way. The route is therefore suitable for visitors who want to notice not only the distance while walking, but also cultivated landscapes and different types of trees.

From Font del Patge, there are views of the surrounding comarca and the municipality of Benissoda. Together with the route through orchards and terraces, this hike places the landscape and open vistas at the forefront.
