Mountain Landscapes Around Font de l’Arbre

The Font de l’Arbre recreational area lies in the Sierra de Aitana at an altitude of around 1,200 metres. There, picnic tables stand beneath poplar trees beside a spring. This gives the site a clear connection with nature for planning your day: elevation, a water source and a place to relax come together here.

In the Fanalic area, during periods of heavy rainfall, an impressive waterfall forms as the river plunges down through the gorge. The municipality also includes explored caves and shafts such as Pericos and La Plana; La Plana is the best-known of these shafts. Among the most frequently visited gorges in Confrides and L’Abdet are the Barranco de Mela and the Barranco del Sord.

Hiking and Sporting Experiences

Confrides offers hiking trails of varying difficulty levels, including the Circular de Mela loop. A hiking stage to Pico de Serrella (Recingle Alt) is 3 km long and takes 1.5 hours. The Ruta Gigantes de Piedra is also available as a hiking route in Confrides.

History and Local Highlights

In the centre of Confrides, the parish church of San José is a prominent landmark. Castillo de Aljofra is a 13th-century Arab fortress at an altitude of 1,100 metres and is considered the highest castle in the province of Alicante.

The ruins of Castillo de Aljofra preserve an Arab rammed-earth wall, a cistern and parts of three defensive towers. In the municipality of Confrides, Trinquet del Abdet was built in 1772. It is one of the few venues where Pilota Grossa is played.

Les Chapas de Confrides is a game of chance held on the night of Maundy Thursday. This custom complements the historic sites with a special, time-specific insight into local life.

Dishes and Regional Products

The cuisine of Confrides and L’Abdet, which they share with the other towns in the Guadalest Valley, includes dishes such as Olleta de blat, Arroz con pencas, Sopa con pelota, rabbit and Minchos de verdura. The Confrides Christmas fair showcases homemade sweets, regional cuisine, turrón, jams, homemade vinegars and organic products.
