The Moros i Cristians festivals in honour of the Mare de Déu dels Desemparats date back to 1822 in Muro del Alcoy and take place every year on the second weekend of May. During the Moros i Cristians celebrations, the Comparsas parade through Muro del Alcoy to the sound of pasodobles and Moorish marches. The festival date adds a distinct cultural highlight to the annual calendar.

Individual buildings also give the town its distinctive character. Casa Palau is a Renaissance building on Plaça del Palau de la Senyoria. El Fumeral has a pentagonal brick structure with longitudinal lines. Devotional tile panels are also part of the townscape and cultural heritage; some date from the 18th century, while others are from the early 20th century. The Ermita de la Madre de Dios de los Desamparados is a rectangular neoclassical church with a hemispherical dome covered in blue tiles. The Ermita de San Antonio has a rectangular interior with four side chapels, depictions of saints on Valencian ceramics, and representations of Saint Anthony the Great and Saint Anthony of Padua on the main altar. The present-day Iglesia de San Juan Bautista is a neoclassical parish church; construction began in 1827, and it was inaugurated in 1837. Paleolithic finds were discovered at the Cova de Beneito archaeological site.

Olive Oil Tradition and Regional Cuisine

The Museu Viu de l’Oli displays the equipment of a traditional oil mill, characteristic of the late 19th century, and presents traditional oil-making methods. Admission is free, but visits must be arranged in advance through the Tourist Information Office. One culinary speciality is Renyos de Masero: the dish is considered typical of Muro del Alcoy and is said not to be found in the surrounding area.

Routes, Nature and Landscape

Muro del Alcoy offers an annual programme of guided tours featuring nature, mushroom, cultural and historical, experience-oriented and cultural routes. The Ruta etnobotànica y de patrimonio a la Vila de Muro is an ethnobotanical and cultural-historical route connected with Muro del Alcoy. The Serra de Mariola nature park, which is linked to Muro del Alcoy, offers various hiking trails. The surrounding area is shaped by centuries-old olive trees, almond groves and springs such as the Fontanelletes spring.
