Pinoso combines historic buildings, wine-growing traditions and experiences in nature to create a destination offering different perspectives. In the historic centre stands the Torre del Reloj, built at the beginning of the 20th century. Its clock dates from 1889, still operates with its original mechanism and is wound by hand every 24 hours. The Iglesia Parroquial de San Pedro Apóstol was founded in 1739 and acquired its present appearance in 1888.

History to Discover

Inside the Torre del Reloj, visitors can experience the impressions and sounds of the century-old clock at close hand. Casa de Don Pedro houses the Tourist Information Office, the Cuina Didáctica training room for gastronomy, an inner courtyard and a multipurpose room for events. The Ruta de Maxi Banegas also leads through the town centre to places and buildings of tourist and cultural interest; it is connected with the work of the local poet Maxi Banegas. The Ermita de Santa Catalina is carved into the rock of a small hill and houses the image of the neighbourhood’s patron saint.

Pinoso’s dry-stone heritage includes retaining walls as well as shelters for agricultural workers or quarry workers, linked to the area’s former mining industry. This traditional dry-stone construction, represented in Pinoso by structures including retaining walls and Cucos, is included on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Paths and Nature around Monte Coto

The botanically particularly interesting Senda dels Gal·lers begins at the Aula de la Naturaleza on Monte Coto and is a marked, almost level circular route measuring 3 km. Every weekend, the Aula de la Naturaleza organises workshops, hikes and environmental days for the whole family. The Centro de Interpretación Ambiental Monte Coto includes a specially protected area incorporated into a project for the conservation and protection of amphibian habitats.

The Centro de Interpretación Ambiental Monte Coto features interconnected ponds where visitors can observe, among other species, midwife toads, common toads, Iberian painted frogs and common frogs. On designated paths, you can walk through restored quarries in Pinoso and observe native species planted for revegetation, as well as water points for wildlife. Some former mining pits have been adapted for ecological restoration, environmental interpretation and environmental education, as well as for sociocultural activities, including theatre performances.

A visitor route on Monte Cabezo de la Sal leads to saltwater channels, micro-reserves of flora and caves, while conveying the area’s natural and cultural-historical values. Casa del Mármol y del Vino also offers sensory experiences centred on Pinoso’s marble and wine traditions, including grape harvesting, stone quarrying, wine cellars and the characteristics of marble. Registration is required at least 15 days in advance; groups must consist of at least 10 people.

Wine and Regional Cuisine

Visitors can tour the facilities of various wineries in Pinoso and the surrounding area and learn about the winemaking process, from receiving the grapes through to bottling. Wine tastings are available during these visits. Held every February, La Mostra de la Cuina del Pinós is dedicated to traditional cuisine and products from local, seasonal production. Dishes presented include Gachamiga, Cocido con faseguras, Ajos pinoseros with Picat, Gazpachos and the particularly famous Arroz con conejo y caracoles. The Ruta de los Tres Pueblos del Interior connects La Romana, Pinoso and Algueña and passes through landscapes featuring vineyards and craft traditions in the interior of Alicante province.
