Tormos between Sierra, Trails and History

Tormos lies along the inland road connecting the Marina Alta with the Marina Baixa. At the foot of the Sierra del Recingle, the town combines mountain landscapes, diverse agriculture and a rich, layered history.

Landscape and Trails around Tormos

Diverse agriculture shapes the landscape around Tormos. The La Bolata spring rises in Tormos; its water feeds the Barranc de La Bolata, which drains into the Girona River. The location near the Caval and Migdía mountains makes excursions around Tormos possible.

For orientation around Tormos, the traditional path to Vall d’Ebo connects with further signposted trails in the area around Vall d’Ebo and Pego.

The Camí del Barranc de la Palla leads to the rock paintings. The walk there takes approximately one hour and is classified as easy. In addition, the Ruta de la Bolata - La Rectoria route leads from Tormos via the Camí d’Ondara and the Camí dels Plans back to the starting point.

Church, History and Former Almazara

The Iglesia de San Luis Beltrán was built in the second half of the 18th century in the Neoclassical style. It has a high altar dedicated to San Luis Beltrán. It also features cement tiles from the late 19th century, arranged in borders and recurring patterns.

Settlement remains from prehistoric times, the Neolithic period, and the Copper and Bronze Ages have been documented in Tormos. In addition, a Roman settlement existed there in the 2nd century BC; in the 12th century, there was a Muslim alquería there.

The Castillo de Tormos is a small Muslim fortress. Christians used it to control the Morisco population; after the expulsion of the Moriscos, it was abandoned. The Castillo can be accessed via the town’s streets.

The building of the former Almazara de Tormos also serves as a social centre and cultural centre. In the former almazara, you can view the equipment used to produce oil and wine. This places the building’s present-day use alongside its former function.

Festivals in the Last Week of August

Every year in the last week of August, Tormos holds patron-saint festivals in honour of San Luis de Beltrán. The celebrations include Correfuegos, local dances, food and evening festivities. The festival calendar thus adds a seasonal accent alongside the town’s trails, landscape and cultural heritage.
