Formentera Del Segura between the Huerta, Mill and Segura River

Formentera Del Segura can be discovered through specific places and landscapes: the Iglesia Parroquial La Purísima, the Molino hidráulico harinero, the traditional Huerta and the groves along the Segura River offer different ways to explore history, everyday life and nature experiences. This makes it a destination where cultural events, walks and rural impressions come together.

Church and festival calendar

The Iglesia Parroquial La Purísima was completed in 1840 after the earthquakes of 1829. It can be visited outside service times. A visit to the church therefore directly connects with an interest in the architectural history of Formentera de Segura.

The municipality of Formentera de Segura's most important traditional festivals include the festival marking the halfway point of the festival year in February, the festivities in honour of the patron saint Inmaculada Concepción in May, and the patronal festivals in honour of San Miguel and San Roque in August. The Ermita de San Roque remains closed all year and opens in mid-August for the Romería in honour of San Roque.

Huerta and groves along the Segura River

The Segura River runs south of Formentera de Segura. Most of the traditional Huerta lies north of the town centre; an extensive network of rural paths provides access to this agriculturally shaped area. In addition to agricultural use, the Huerta is also used for recreation and leisure activities. Soto del Río consists of former meanders of the Segura River that have been transformed into wooded recreational areas. The groves that developed along the Segura River south of Formentera de Segura are used for walking. For walks, the groves offer a different setting from the rural paths of the Huerta: here there are wooded recreational areas, while there is an agriculturally shaped network of paths there.

The Huerta also remains present in the local cuisine: gastronomy in Formentera de Segura is based on produce from this agriculturally shaped area. The Huerta's produce carries this rural character into the local cuisine.

Mill and Paraje natural El Molino

The Molino hidráulico harinero preserves its original machinery and the miller's dwelling. Its existence in Formentera de Segura has been documented since the end of the 18th century. During a visit, you can take freshly milled and sifted flour home with you. The mill thus complements the agriculturally shaped Huerta with a craft-related element.

Access in the Paraje natural El Molino has been adapted for people with reduced mobility; the natural area also has a children's playground. The adapted access is intended for people with reduced mobility; independently of this, the children's playground is another feature of the natural area.
