Anroig between Cultural Heritage, Cheese-Making Tradition and Rural Trails

The Capella de la Mare de Déu del Pilar

The Capella de la Mare de Déu del Pilar in Anroig is protected as a Bé de Rellevància Local, making it a locally significant cultural asset. It was built around 1980.

Architecturally, the Capella has a simple bell gable with two brick columns. These support a triangular pediment topped by a cross. The Capella is also fitted with ceramic retables of the Santíssima Trinitat from the 17th century, as well as of Sant Marc and Sant Vicent i Sant Cristòfol from the 18th century. The building therefore brings together a clear exterior form and ceramic works from different periods.

Traces of Roads and Crossings

The former N-232 route through Anroig was discontinued in 2002 when a bypass was built. Kilometer marker 32 remains on the former N-232 route in Anroig. The central section of the transhumance route passes through Anroig and crosses the N-232. The old bridge over the Barranc del Molinás has a single stone arch with a span of approximately 8 m. When planning routes, the old road to Zaragoza, the Rambla de Cervera and the Barranc dels Catinells can be used as concrete reference points.

Cheese-Making and Sheep Farming

At Mas La Creu in the Barrio de Anroig, the cheese workshop at Quesería Artesana La Planeta includes a visit to the sheep and a tasting of four dairy products. The workshop introduces traditional cheese-making in the Maestrat, from raising the sheep and obtaining the milk to storing the milk in milk churns. In addition, Quesería Artesana La Planeta at Mas La Creu in the Barrio de Anroig offers events focused on herding sheep.

Rural Trails and Cycling Routes

The route “D’Anroig al Molló dels Cinc Termes, amb un vèrtex de propina” begins in Anroig and follows the old road to Zaragoza in the direction of Morella. It crosses the Rambla de Cervera and runs along the Barranc dels Catinells, passing olive terraces as well as holm oaks and cork oaks.
