Plaza México and Espai Mèxic

Espai Mèxic is located in Casa Abadia, Plaza Mayor 3. It is a permanent exhibition about Plaza México and the Indianos of La Salzadella. Plaza México is also an exceptional example of Indianos architecture, with a decorative fountain and lush tropical vegetation. This gives you a cultural gateway to different facets of the town’s history: the exhibition focuses on a specific historical subject, while the square is shaped by its architecture and design.

Church and Medieval Fortifications

The parish church of La Salzadella was built between 1736 and 1756 by Joseph Palau in the Baroque style of the northern Valencian region. It preserves liturgical goldsmith’s work from the 15th to the 18th century, including a rock-crystal processional cross. Its construction period, style and preserved ecclesiastical art are particularly interesting if you would like to combine historical details with works of craftsmanship.

The Portal de la Bassa is one of the gates in the medieval town wall that protected access to the old road to Sant Mateu. It has a semicircular arch made of ashlar stones. A preserved section of this town wall, to which the portal belongs, has been designated an Asset of Cultural Interest. The Portal de les Coves is a historic gate into the medieval fortified complex and leads to the streets of the old medieval town centre.

El Calvario as a Separate Cultural Site

El Calvario de La Salzadella is an architectural complex with a chapel, a Way of the Cross with 14 stations, and a tree-lined garden with ornamental plants.

Route, Via Augusta and Ancient Olive Trees

For days with a stronger focus on the landscape, the 16 km Ruta de la Vía Augusta y El Mas de la Teuleria provides a clearly described framework. It runs through the municipality of La Salzadella and can be completed on foot or by quad bike. The route passes groups of monumental olive trees as well as another group of thousand-year-old olive trees. Its final section to La Salzadella follows the course of the Via Augusta.
