Almà ssera: Discover Huerta, history and Valencian cuisine
Almà ssera combines Huerta, local history and regional cuisine. The Museu de l'Horta is located in the town's former slaughterhouse, right in the middle of the Huerta. Your stay here begins with a tangible connection to the landscape and local history rather than with interchangeable sights.
Huerta, nature and an accessible route
The VÃa Verde Xurra is accessible on foot, by bicycle, on roller skates and in a wheelchair. It runs for approximately 16 kilometres through the Huerta of València. If you like to divide your days between activity and landscapes, this combination provides a clear basis for planning without requiring you to commit to just one mode of transport. The Clot de la Caldera is a natural site in the Barranco de Carraixet. Chufas are cultivated in the fields of Almà ssera for use in the production of horchata. This brings together the route, natural surroundings and agricultural tradition, offering different ways to discover Almà ssera through its themes.
Architecture with clear traces of different eras
The parish church of SantÃsimo Sacramento dates from the 18th century. Its brick façade has two towers. The interior consists of three naves; the central nave has a barrel vault, and there is also a transept. The Cruz de término of Almà ssera dates from the 14th century.
Museums between village culture and porcelain
The permanent exhibition at the Museu de l'Horta explores aspects of traditional village culture and is divided into two sections. The first section presents objects from domestic life and focuses particularly on chufa cultivation. This makes visible how closely everyday culture and agricultural work are connected in the topics covered.
The birthplace of the Lladró brothers, Casa Natal Lladró, has been converted into a museum. Casa Natal Lladró offers educational workshops that explain the porcelain-making process.
Tradition and cuisine
Almà ssera's Corpus tradition is linked to a papal concession. A papal concession permits the celebration to take place on a different date; traditionally, it includes „el miracle dels peixets“. During the traditional Corpus procession, dolçaina music and traditional dances accompany the parade. The local festival culture is therefore expressed not only through a date, but also through music, dance and a traditional representation.
The cuisine also has its own distinctive features. Almà ssera's local paella is prepared with bull liver. Arròs al forn is a particularly important local rice dish in Almà ssera. Together, these dishes give the regional cuisine a specific, place-based character and complement the cultural and landscape themes with two typical rice dishes.
