Raisin Culture at the riurau del Roig

The Centre d’Interpretació de la Cultura de la Pansa is housed in the riurau del Roig. It presents raisin cultivation as part of the local memory, history and economy and provides knowledge about the processing and production of raisins. Ròtova also has a riu-rau, a dry-stone structure used for drying raisins. This makes the importance of this agricultural subject visible in a specific building and at a dedicated cultural centre.

Another special feature is the Vil·la Romana de la Sort. It has a 336 m² wall painting by mural painter and restorer Toni Espinar. A prior reservation by telephone or email is required to visit the Vil·la Romana de la Sort. If you include this place in your plans, the reservation is therefore an essential part of preparing for your visit.

Historic Buildings in the Townscape

Ròtova has significant examples of Valencian vernacular architecture in the town’s streets and houses. These buildings include the 16th-century Acueducto del Monasterio de San Jerónimo in the Gothic-Mudéjar style, the 17th-century Palacio de los Condes de Rótova and the 18th-century Iglesia Parroquial San Bartolomé. The three dates place the buildings in different centuries and give the townscape several historical layers.

Springs, Viewpoints and Protected Flora

The PR-CV 100 trail connects the springs of les Galeries and dels Llibrells with several viewpoints. The PR-CV 100 also passes through the Cova de les Rates y Casa dels Garcies flora micro-reserve.

Festival Traditions and Regional Cuisine

The Porrat de Sant Macià is a festival of local tourist interest and takes place on the last Sunday in February. Traditional confectionery stalls and fairground rides are combined with cultural and festive activities at the festival. The date makes the Porrat a clear seasonal reference point for your travel planning.

Typical dishes from Ròtova include Coques de dacsa, prepared with corn flour. Pastissets d’aire as well as confectionery made with almonds and sweet potatoes are also typical. Ròtova has three wood-fired ovens. These specific dishes, ingredients and ovens give the town’s culinary side its own profile without separating it from its raisin history and traditional festivals.
