Faura’s traditional historic centre has its origins in the Arab period. An important building is the Església dels Sants Joans, which was rebuilt in the 18th century over a 16th-century church. Its floor plan is shaped like a Latin cross, with three naves and six chapels. Inside are 28 18th-century frescoes by Joaquim Pérez and Josep Camarón Bonanad. The Palace of the Lordship of the Barony-County of Faura was built as a residence in the 15th century and originally served as a watchtower. The building is Gothic; the coat of arms of the Vilarrasa family remains preserved on its façade. This historic picture is complemented by the old municipal washhouse, which is very well preserved. The individual buildings represent different functions and periods, making Faura a place where history can be understood through preserved forms, façade details and former uses.

Irrigated Landscapes, Walks and Trails

The landscape of Faura is crossed by irrigation channels. Traditional hydraulic infrastructures such as Partidores and Sistars are still in use. Visitors can walk among the fields of Faura and discover these traditional irrigation channels along the way. For more active exploration, there are also hiking and cycling trails, as well as routes leading to Pico de los Cuervos. Depending on the pace of the day, you can therefore spend your time taking a leisurely walk through the fields or going on a longer tour by bicycle or on foot.

From Pico de los Cuervos, there is a panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea and the entire coastal plain. The route to Pico de los Cuervos can begin at the Santa Bárbara Hermitage. The hermitage dates from 1716 and can be reached via the Calvary. This combination of a historic destination, a route beginning at the Santa Bárbara Hermitage and expansive views gives the surrounding area a clear point of orientation without requiring you to focus on just one type of attraction.

Festivals and Regional Products

The Festes d’Agost in Faura are held in honour of the Mare de Déu d’Agost. They include activities such as Bous al Carrer, Pilota, folk dancing, fireworks and children’s games. The festivities therefore appeal to different interests and combine traditional forms of public life with activities for families and curious visitors.

Another regular date is the Feria de Faura on 4 December, the feast day of Saint Barbara. This feria sells handcrafted and gastronomic products. Anyone wishing to get to know Faura through its history, trails and local events will therefore find several different reasons to explore the town.
