La Font D'en Carròs: History, Festivals and Nature

La Font D'en Carròs combines historical traces, lively festivals and impressive landscapes. This creates a destination with a variety of highlights: religious art and local history, traditional events, a route running entirely through the forest, and special places for nature and relaxation.

Church, Walls and Local History

The parish church of Sant Antoni Màrtir was built in 1329 over an earlier mosque. The church contains the tombs of Francesc Carròs I and Francesc Carròs II, as well as an altarpiece of the Adoration of the Magi attributed to Espinosa. Medieval origins and tangible evidence of local history thus come together in one place.

The Muralles del Rafalí are recognised as a Bé d’Interés Cultural (BIC). Around 100 metres of the wall dating from the 14th century have been preserved, along with the remains of two towers. The Museu Casa de la Paraula is located in the former home of lexicographer Francesc Ferrer Pastor and presents his life, work and contribution to the Valencian language.

The Font dels Xorros is located on Plaça Francesc Carròs. It has seven water outlets that fall into a rectangular basin; an inscription probably identifies 1826 as the year of its construction and channelling. The former town hall is a 14th-century building that now houses the Oficina de Turismo and two exhibition rooms.

Festivals with Their Own Traditions

The Sant Antoni del Porquet festival in La Font d'en Carròs dates back to the 16th century and takes place every year on the weekend after 17 January around the Ermita de Sant Antoni. It includes a medieval market where traditional activities such as pottery, esparto processing, glassmaking and goldsmithing are demonstrated. The Moros i Cristians festival currently comprises six comparsas: three Moorish and three Christian groups. It takes place on the weekend before the patron saint festivities. Forest, Peaks and Special Natural Sites

The PR-CV 347 route begins at the cemetery park, leads entirely through the forest to the summit of Covatelles and then returns to the starting point. From the summit, panoramic views extend along the Mediterranean coast from Cullera to Cap de Sant Antoni and Montgó. Inland, the view opens onto the Safor, Benicadell, Mondúber and Serra Grossa.

La Sima Blanca – Cova del Mosquit is a tectonic cave with a 20-metre-deep shaft, several chambers and an underground aquifer. It is accessible only to experienced caving experts. Muntanya del Rabat is a 167-metre-high peak where the remains of an Iberian settlement have been found.

For a break with a variety of ways to spend time, Parc de la Plana offers 15,000 m² of prepared recreational space.
