Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC): Bus, Tram and Transfers

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport (ALC) is a convenient arrival point for many trips to the Costa Blanca. But choosing an airport is about more than just the airfare: what matters is the entire journey from the terminal to your accommodation. Check direct buses, transfers, arrival times and the final leg of your journey. Buses run from ALC to Alicante, Elche and several coastal towns; for other destinations, a transfer or rental car may make sense.

Alicante Airport at a glance

  • Name and code: Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, international code ALC.
  • Getting to the city: Bus route C6 connects the terminal with Alicante year-round.
  • Continue by tram: Among other stops, C6 serves the transfer points at Luceros and Alfonso X El Sabio.
  • Other destinations: Aena lists bus services to Elche, Benidorm, DĂ©nia, Jávea, Calpe, Santa Pola and Murcia, among other places.
  • Especially convenient: for Alicante and many destinations in the province; for the northern Costa Blanca, it is also worth comparing Valencia.
  • Check before booking: the timetable for your travel date, the last service, transfers, luggage and the distance from the stop to your accommodation.

By bus to Alicante and the tram

The C6 is the main bus link between the terminal and Alicante. It runs daily and stops in the city at places including the railway station and the TRAM transfer points at Alfonso X El Sabio and Luceros. The airport itself has no direct train or tram connection: to continue your journey on the TRAM network, first take the bus from the terminal into the city.

If you are staying in Alicante, check which C6 stop is closest to your destination and what the rest of the journey involves. If you have heavy luggage or a stroller, or your accommodation is outside the city centre, a route with fewer transfers may matter more than the shortest distance. The city of Alicante and the Alicante accommodation overview can help you get your bearings and choose where to stay.

Aena provides route and stop information, as well as links to current timetables, on the official Alicante-Elche Airport bus page. Timetables and services may change; the information for your specific travel date is what counts.

Direct buses to Elche, Benidorm and the coast

In addition to the C6, Aena lists several intercity bus routes from the airport. The R11 connects the terminal with Elche; the R10 also goes via Elche and continues towards Arenales del Sol. Direct or regional services to Benidorm, Calpe, Dénia and Jávea are also listed, along with buses towards Santa Pola and Murcia. The route that works best for you depends on your destination, the day of the week, the season and your arrival time.

To Benidorm, a direct bus can save you a detour via Alicante. For Torrevieja, check whether there is a direct service on your travel date or whether you will need to change buses. For Elche, the R11 and R10 are options. The final stop may not be at your accommodation: factor in the last leg on foot, by local transport or by taxi.

Aena’s overview links to the relevant bus operators for times and fares. Check the departure point and the bus stop at the airport. If you arrive late, avoid planning a tight connection that you can only make if your luggage is delivered immediately.

Dénia, Jávea and the northern Costa Blanca

Aena lists bus services from the airport to Dénia and Jávea, some with intermediate stops or via Alicante. So don’t compare only “direct” with “transfer”—look at the whole journey: waiting time, number of transfers, luggage, arrival point and distance to your accommodation. If the last suitable bus leaves before you land, arranging a transfer in advance or staying overnight may be more practical than trying to continue your journey at the last minute.

If you are staying in Dénia, check the service for your exact travel date. For the coastal town of Benidorm, a direct bus can make the journey easier; in Elche, bus connections are particularly relevant. The accommodation pages can help you compare places to stay; availability and conditions vary by provider.

Alicante or Valencia as your destination airport?

ALC is often the obvious choice for Alicante, Elche, Benidorm and destinations in the central or southern Costa Blanca. Valencia may also work for Dénia, Jávea and places farther north. There is no single best option for everyone: flights, arrival times and transfer services vary depending on your travel date.

Compare the total journey: airfare plus transfer, any overnight stay, travel time to your accommodation and the return trip to the terminal. The airport comparison for the Valencia region compares Alicante, Valencia and CastellĂłn by destination area. There is also a separate overview of Valencia Airport (VLC) for the city of Valencia. The province of Alicante and the Costa Blanca offer guidance on the different destinations.

Taxi, rental car and private transfer

A taxi or a pre-booked transfer can be convenient if you arrive late, are travelling with several people, have a lot of luggage or have chosen accommodation without a suitable bus connection. At the airport, follow the signs to the official taxi rank. For a private transfer, confirm the meeting point, waiting time in case of flight delays, total price and any child seats needed before booking. Fares may change, so don’t rely on old flat rates quoted in travel reports.

A rental car is most useful if you are visiting several destinations or staying somewhere remote. In addition to the daily rate, compare the excess, deposit, fuel policy, mileage limit, additional driver fees and return arrangements outside opening hours. Check where you will pick up the car and how to get from the desk or car park to the vehicle. If you are staying mainly in Alicante, first weigh up the cost and convenience of public transport against renting a car.

Plan your arrival and return flight without rushing

After landing, allow time to disembark, collect your luggage and find your way around. Don’t plan a tight connection if you have checked luggage or the service runs infrequently. Save your accommodation address offline and note the nearest stop. If you arrive late, it helps to know an alternative before you fly in case the last bus is no longer an option.

For your return flight, plan backwards: your preferred arrival time at the terminal, journey time, waiting time and a buffer for delays. If you are taking a bus, don’t rely on the last connection that could theoretically get you there in time. Returning a rental car also involves refuelling, a vehicle inspection and getting from the return location to the terminal. Check the return instructions again the day before you leave.
