Jijona combines turrón, historic buildings and hiking. The Turrón Museum, the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, the castle and the PR-270 hiking trail each offer a different focus. The topics range from the production of turrón and marzipan to architecture, festival traditions and the trail along the Sierra.

Turrón and Craft Heritage

The Turrón Museum is a private institution dedicated to preserving the technical heritage of turrón and marzipan production. Its focus is the craft knowledge behind these products. Some of the finest Jijona pastries were produced in Jijona.

Christmas Fair and Product Range

The Jijona Christmas Fair took place from 4 December to 8 December. It included 121 stalls offering turrón, handcrafted confectionery, gourmet products and handicrafts. In addition to selling turrón, confectionery and Christmas products, it was a major event for families and friends. The fair combined these products with other culinary and craft offerings.

Church and Bell Tower

The historic side includes the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Xixona. It was built between the 16th and 17th centuries and reflects the transition from Late Gothic to the Valencian Renaissance. The bell tower of the Parish Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Jijona is made of stone, has a square floor plan and is crowned by a green-and-white glazed-tile roof structure with diamond patterns. The bell tower adds a precisely described exterior detail to the architectural history.

Xixona Castle

Xixona Castle has been restored and is one of the municipality’s most important cultural heritage symbols. Following its restoration, it was refurbished for use by residents and visitors. The “Castillo de Torre Grossa” castle in Jijona can be visited and is accessible from the town.

Festivals with a Long History

The Moors and Christians celebrations in Jijona have been documented since the mid-18th century and therefore form part of the town’s festival tradition, which has been recorded over a long period. The Moro Traidor is a representative and emblematic feature of these celebrations and takes place on the third day of the festival calendar.

Hiking in the Sierra de la Carrasqueta

The PR-270 is a specific reference point for hiking in the Sierra de la Carrasqueta. The trail is one of three short-distance trails within the municipality of Xixona recognised by the mountaineering federation of the Valencian Community, FEMECV. It runs along the southern side of the Sierra de la Carrasqueta. For hikers, the PR-270 is fully prepared and meets the standards required by FEMECV for homologation and safety. The PR-270 links the route through the Sierra with the status recognised by the federation and the standards required for homologation and safety.
