Historic Traces Along the Coast

In Punta Prima, you can also encounter remnants of coastal defence. The former Carabineros barracks in Punta Prima were built in the 19th century to control coastal smuggling. The Punta Prima barracks and an air-raid shelter built later were subsequently used to establish an anti-aircraft battery as part of the coastal defence plan of the Cartagena naval base. During the Spanish Civil War, these facilities housed a detachment of Artillery Regiment No. 3 from Cartagena.

The main access to Punta Prima Beach is via the N-332 Alicante-Cartagena road. For people with reduced mobility, the beach has a lift that facilitates access. Punta Prima Beach also has walkways, maritime surveillance, toilets, a restaurant and improved access for people with reduced mobility.
