Forest, Wildlife and Water

Sierra Escalona preserves a significant forest area with ravines and shaded areas. Its vegetation consists mainly of Aleppo pines, strawberry trees, holm oaks, mastic shrubs and dwarf palms. Sierra Escalona is also home to birds of prey and mammals such as the genet and the wildcat. Your interest in nature therefore extends not only to the landscape itself, but also to the wildlife found there.

It is linear and offers views of the area's characteristic landscape with agriculturally used areas. The fixed distance and the climbs are key factors when planning this connection between Arneva and Torremendo. The agriculturally used areas along the route create a different landscape impression from the wooded areas of Sierra Escalona.

Cycling Routes with Different Characteristics

An official cycling route through Orihuela, Sierra Escalona and Torremendo follows the CV-925 to Torremendo. It then continues between agriculturally used areas towards Hurchillo. On the MTB route at La Pedrera Reservoir, it is advisable to carry precise information about the turn-offs or a GPS track. Numerous rural access roads to huertas and tool sheds can lead to navigation errors. Unlike the linear hiking route, the focus here is on navigating junctions.
