Sanet y Negrals: Waterways, Cultural Heritage and Regional Cuisine

Sanet y Negrals lies on the slopes of the Serra de Segària. The landscape includes irrigation channels, mills and natural springs. Those seeking a rural setting with historic traces, waterways and regional traditions will find several different points of interest here to consider when planning their trip.

Waterways and routes through the landscape

The Camí de l'Aigua is an easy route. It connects 13 signposted stations, each explained on information boards, whose common theme is water. The route passes the Font de la Roda, a natural spring, and leads to the former mill complex of Sanet i els Negrals.

Another way to experience Sanet i els Negrals on a designated route is the Ruta de la Bolata - La Rectoria. It runs along Avinguda de l'Ajuntament through Sanet i els Negrals and is designed as a circular route. This places two differently characterised paths at the centre: the Camí de l'Aigua focuses on water and historic mills, while the Ruta de la Bolata - La Rectoria runs through the town and returns to its starting point.

Palaces, mills and religious heritage

The Palau de la Senyoria is located in the centre of Negrals. The building was erected in the 18th century and renovated in the 19th century. The coats of arms of its owners have been preserved. The bell tower formerly served as a defensive tower and chapel and is now used as an oratory.

The Molí de la Senyoria dates from the 16th or 17th century and was taken out of service around 1915. It is located in the Negrals area next to a magnolia regarded as the largest in the province of Alicante. This historic setting is complemented by the parish church of Santa Anna, which is considered to be of local cultural significance.

The Ermita de Sant Antoni de Pàdua is part of the Montesano residential development on the mountainside immediately north of the centre of Sanet i els Negrals. It offers wide-ranging views.

Squares, cuisine and festivals

Plaça del Crist includes a circular viewpoint with benches, a children's playground, a sports court and the municipal swimming pool. Typical dishes from Sanet y Negrals include, alongside traditional Valencian paella, rice with squid, broad beans and artichokes, as well as cocas. Sweet potato pastries are usually baked at Christmas.

The annual calendar also has its own highlights: the Festes de la Colombòfila take place in June in honour of Saint Anthony and young people. The Festes del Crist are celebrated in the first week of September in honour of the Crist de la Salut and Saint Anna. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore consider whether waterways, local history, the landscape, regional cuisine or a particular festival period should be the focus of your trip.
