The Mosquera and Almanzor valleys contain significant cork oak forests, where cork oaks grow alongside holm oaks and pine trees. The vegetation in these two valleys therefore consists of several characteristic tree species. Those who look closely at the landscape will find holm oaks and pine trees here alongside the cork oak forest as specific features of the natural setting.
The Castle and Oldest Part of the Town
Castillo de Almedíjar is also known as Castillo de La Rodana and Castillet. It is located 3 km from the town and can be reached via the Camino de la Rodana. All three names refer to the same castle, clearly distinguishing it from the other historic traces in the town.
In the oldest part of Almedíjar, the Arco del Castillo is made of ashlar stone and forms the entrance to this area. Various wall sections and arches belonging to a partially preserved walled complex can also be seen there. The arch, wall sections and arches are therefore among the clearly visible architectural traces of the oldest part of Almedíjar.
Cheese from the Surrounding Area
At the shop of Quesería Artesana Los Corrales, visitors can sample the cheeses and receive explanations about how they are made and which varieties are available. The cheese dairy uses goat's and sheep's milk from herds in the surrounding area. The visit therefore combines tasting with a direct insight into the production process, varieties and types of milk used.
