Arañuel: Mijares Valley, forest trails and rural village character

Arañuel combines river landscapes, forest trails and a rural village character. In its surroundings, the Río Mijares forms meanders and river beaches; vegetable-growing areas and olive groves are also part of the landscape.

Hiking trails offering varied impressions

The SL-CV 177 hiking trail begins at the Iglesia de San Miguel Arcángel on the CV-20 road in Arañuel. It leads through pine and holm oak forests to the Rosaire heights, offering wide views over the Mijares Valley and towards Mount Campero. At 2.30 km, it is a short one-way trail. The Iglesia de San Miguel is located on Plaza Mayor; this specific route therefore connects the natural surroundings with the village.

The SL-CV 96 also has a clear focus on the landscape. In the northern or northwestern part of the municipality, it runs along paths and tracks through lush vegetation and exceptionally beautiful forests typical of the Alto Mijares region; on its southern or southwestern side, it borders the Magraile summit. The SL-CV95 hiking trail, known as the “Balcón del Millars”, was developed or upgraded because of its viewpoints over the Mijares Valley. Arañuel also has signposted local hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels.

The Mijares and the Vuelta al Mijares

The river reveals another side of Arañuel: In the surrounding area, the Río Mijares forms meanders and river beaches, while El Pozo, a designated bathing area on the river, is also nearby. The Vuelta al Mijares route provides an accessible trail option. It goes around the Mijares and passes through the Fuente Seguer.

Village character and local architectural heritage

You encounter culture at the Iglesia de San Miguel, which is considered a Bien de relevancia local, meaning a local heritage asset of significance. The simple neoclassical building dates from the 17th century and displays features of the Corinthian order. The public laundry is another sight in the village centre.

Typical rural houses in Arañuel include large gates, tiled roofs and one or two storeys. The attics were formerly used for drying produce. The Ermita de San Roque is also located nearby and offers a destination for a visit and an opportunity to enjoy the landscape.
