Barracas combines trails, religious buildings, historic local architecture and nature observation with an events calendar that highlights different seasons. In Barracas, you can combine a bike ride or walk along the Vía Verde with historic details and regional events. These include the Vía Verde, the Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol, the Ermita de San Roque, Calle Teruel and the Balsa Grande.

Vía Verde and Recreation Area
At the start of the Vía Verde at Estación del Palancar, there is a recreation area with a forest hut, a playground, barbecue facilities and public toilets. A particularly well-adapted section of the Vía Verde de Ojos Negros runs through Barracas. You can use this Vía Verde on foot, by bicycle or in a wheelchair; individual ramps outside the original route are excluded. In Barracas, the section and the ramps outside the original route must therefore be considered separately.
Historic Trails and Houses
The Ruta del Santo Grial de Valencia runs from the Monasterio de San Juan de la Peña in Aragón to Valencia and passes through Barracas. On Calle Teruel, the historic houses include buildings from the 17th century; in particular, house number 15 is considered one of the oldest buildings in Barracas.
Church Architecture and Local History
The Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol is a Gothic masonry church from the 16th century with a single-nave, three-bay nave and a square-ended chancel. The Ermita de San Roque was built as a replacement after the original chapel was demolished to make way for the Valencia–Calatayud railway line. The Ermita has a three-bay masonry nave, exterior buttresses, a gabled roof and a chancel end facing west.
A procession takes place at the Ermita de San Roque on August 15. The Fuente de San Pedro bears an inscription dating from 1576; remains of a stone coat of arms and the keys of Saint Peter can also be seen there.
Nature and Events Throughout the Year
The Balsa Grande lies next to a recreation area, is fed in the middle by a natural spring and is home to native species such as moorhens. The events also provide clear seasonal highlights: the Feria Agrícola, Ganadera, de Caza y Tiempo Libre de Barracas takes place in June and has been held there since 2005. The Carrera de Montaña 15k has been held in Barracas every November since 2018. Together with the procession on August 15, this creates a range extending from nature observation and local history to regional festivals and sporting activities.
