Church History and Visible Details

The Church of Nuestra Señora de Loreto has a single nave with a barrel vault. It was rebuilt between 1885 and 1887 and given neoclassically inspired furnishings. Its history goes back further: in 1535, it was a temple attached to the church of Montaberner; in 1574, it became independent.

Another specific detail of everyday religious culture can be found on Calle Virgen del Loreto. There is a ceramic religious tile panel there dating from the late 18th century. The panel complements the church with a smaller example of religious history in the streetscape.

Camino del Cid and Hiking Destination

The Camino del Cid, a cultural route following in the footsteps of this historic figure, passes through Bufali. The Camino del Cid pilgrim passport can be stamped at the town hall.

From the centre of Bufali, a walking route of approximately 16 kilometres leads along roads and trails to the Nevera de la Lloma Solaneta. The route can therefore be considered a longer hiking option. The Nevera itself is a circular ice storage facility with a diameter of 6.50 metres and a shaft 7.30 metres deep. The destination combines a hike with a built example of historic food-storage technology.

River Landscape and Birdwatching

Outside the village, along the Albaida River, lies the Bufali Ornithological Station (Fuente del Río). It is used for researching and observing birds. The station has picnic tables in a natural setting. This creates a clear distinction for your planning between the cultural points of interest in the village and a nature-focused destination outside Bufali.

The area surrounding the village is also clearly shaped by agriculture. The different distances and locations are particularly helpful when weighing up your daily schedule, hiking plans or birdwatching activities.

Festivals with Their Own Traditions

For the Loreto patron-saint festival, residents traditionally prepare Pericana and sangria; at midday, the entire village comes together for a shared meal. The festival also includes a flower-offering ceremony, during which residents walk through the village to the Church of Nuestra Señora de Loreto. The patron-saint festivals in honour of Our Lady of Loreto and the Christ of the Poor were celebrated in 2025 during the week of 15 August.

The San Antonio celebrations in Bufali include a bonfire and the blessing of the animals. In 2025, these celebrations took place in the last week of January. Together with the Loreto patron-saint festival, they represent two different festive highlights during the year, without allowing general dates for other years to be inferred.
