Silla between cultural heritage and l’Albufera

Silla is a place where Valencian cultural heritage and the landscape of l’Albufera come together in tangible ways: a tower reinforced in the 14th century, an 18th-century church, festivals featuring traditional customs, and rice fields beside the Puerto de Silla. The Torre Musulmana is the central focus of the town’s historical sights. Following its restoration in 1984, it became home to Silla’s museographic collection. Its medieval history is also reflected in the structural remains: in the 14th century, the Torre Musulmana was reinforced with an enclosing wall and a defensive moat, remnants of which are still visible today. The Museu d’Història i Arqueologia de Silla (MARS) is housed in one of the towers. Another architectural highlight is the Antigua Casa Correos, regarded in Silla as a unique example of neoclassical architecture.

The Església Nostra Sra. dels Àngels is also one of the town’s important historical landmarks. Its construction began around 1751 under the patronage of the Order of Montesa.

Festivals with Valencian character

The Festa en honor al Santíssim Crist is recognised as a festival of local tourist interest by the Comunitat Valenciana and takes place in the first half of August. It preserves the Danza de los Porrots and the Canto de la Carxofa as elements of cultural heritage. It is particularly suited to a trip where regional products, local events and the historic town centre all play a role.

Puerto de Silla and l’Albufera

At the Puerto de Silla in the l’Albufera Natural Park, the huerta and the rice fields meet. The natural park also has boats, including boats with traditional lateen sails, on its canals.

Renfe Cercanías trains can take you to Silla station, where you can begin a route through Valencia’s rice fields.
