Coastal Landscape and Natural Environment
When you consider Cabanes as a destination, you encounter coastal landscapes, trails and historic sites on different scales. The Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca Nature Park is a coastal wetland recognized as a wetland of international importance. The Desert de les Palmes Nature Park represents a coastal mountain landscape; its highest point is Bartolo at 729 metres. Together, these landscapes create a clear contrast between the flat coastal area and the wooded mountain world.

Along the coast, nature and history can also be experienced in close proximity. Torre la Sal Beach preserves elements of its past as a fishing settlement, including traditional fishermen's houses. Four defensive towers are located in its surroundings, including Torre la Sal. El Cudolà Beach lies in the Prat de Cabanes wetland and has a coastline of approximately 2,000 metres. In the wider surroundings of Cabanes, there is also Quartell Vell Beach, with the ruins of an old Carabineros barracks and a coastline of 3,300 metres.
Routes for Walking and Cycling
For short, very easy trails, the Ruta de les Santes is a good option: the 4-kilometre route starts and ends at the Ermita de les Santes. The route to Miravet Castle also starts at the Ermita de les Santes. This easy, 4-kilometre walk follows a marked forest track to the remains of the fortress.
El Bartolo i les Santes offers a longer route and changing landscapes. This easy hiking route is 9.9 kilometres long and leads to Bartolo, the highest point in the nature park at 729 metres. From there, panoramic views open up over the coast of Castelló and large parts of the inland area. Along the coast, Torre la Sal 2 is a very easy, marked 6.5-kilometre route through fossil dunes and wetlands to the vicinity of the ruins of an old Carabineros barracks. The Senda Local de Cabanes SLC1 is a very easy, 5.74-kilometre circular route that you can complete on foot or by bicycle. From the coastal settlement of Torre la Sal in Cabanes, a route also leads on foot or by bicycle to the beaches of the neighbouring municipality of Torreblanca. For longer cycling excursions, Cabanes has a mountain bike route network of more than 100 kilometres, divided into five routes.
History Across Several Layers of Time
Miravet Castle is a fortress of Muslim origin, with architectural remains still preserved. In historic Cabanes, the medieval men's prison dates from the 15th century. The Arco Romano de Cabanes is a structure from the 2nd century that has survived to the present day. A medieval settlement in Cabanes was protected by walls with four gates, which were closed at nightfall. An archaeological settlement in Cabanes dates back even further: it was inhabited between 4,000 and 2,500 years ago, during the Bronze Age and the early Iron Age. The guided Paseo cultural por Cabanes presents the layout of the former Muslim settlement, medieval manor houses, a medieval oven and one of the former town gates.
Festivals, Exhibitions and Regional Products
Local culture includes the Fira de Sant Andreu in Cabanes, which is recognized as a festival of provincial tourist interest. It features a traditional livestock exhibition as well as a bonsai exhibition. The Fira de Sant Andreu also offers gastronomic products from Castelló, including turrón, confectionery, wine, cheese, cured meats and salted products. This allows you to discover Cabanes according to your interests through coastal trails, natural areas, history or regional culture.
