Historic Places and Special Buildings
The Iglesia de la Purísima Concepción is a 17th-century church built on the remains of an Arab mosque. Its Baroque façade and impressive main altar make it a notable cultural destination in Pedralba.
A different townscape characterises Calle de la Acequia. The acequia madre canal, bridges and steps are just as much a part of its character as the houses that have preserved their original structure. In Calle Rocheta, remains of the former castle wall preserve the memory of Pedralba’s former Muslim medina; steps make pedestrian access easier there.
The Ermita de la Virgen del Luján stands on a hill. It includes a viewpoint and panoramic views of Pedralba. This makes it possible to combine the historic side of the town with a view over the settlement, without culture taking place exclusively indoors.
The Casa-Museo Pedralba 2000 is a museum of contemporary art open to the public. The permanent exhibition comprises 250 works across 1,500 m² in a fully restored building dating from 1911. Contemporary art thus complements the older traces found in the streets, church and wall remains.
Nature Experiences and Paths by the Water
From the centre of Pedralba, the Rincón del Pontón can be reached on foot via the Camino del Candilico. There are shaded picnic tables and benches as well as easily accessible natural pools. The site therefore combines a walking route with opportunities for an outdoor break.
The ZEPA of Pedralba offers themed guided tours and birdwatching, including observations of eagle owls and Bonelli’s eagles. Eagle owls and Bonelli’s eagles therefore provide specific focal points for birdwatching in the ZEPA of Pedralba.
Hiking, Cycling and Experiencing the Landscape
The Ruta del Azud is a 5.850 km-long hiking route with a low level of difficulty and an estimated duration of two hours.
By bicycle, the Ruta cicloturista Villamarxant-Pedralba follows public paths. The route passes the La Pea hydroelectric facility and crosses agricultural areas as well as landscapes along the Río Turia. Agricultural land and the river landscape are jointly at the centre here.
The Ruta Parque Fluvial de Pedralba follows the Río Turia through traditional orchards and recreational areas. There are picnic areas along the route, which also offers nature experiences in the Turia Nature Park. Together with the Rincón del Pontón and the designated paths, this creates a broad range of options between walking, cycling, taking a break and nature observation.
Traditional Specialities from Pedralba
Traditional specialities are also part of the local character of the town. These include olla pedralbina, carne a lo pastor, “vitaminas”, coca con tajá and almond mantecaos. These specific savoury dishes and sweets are associated with Pedralba and form part of the local tradition.
