Olocau can be explored through several distinct themes: Iberian history, historic buildings, Valencian local culture and paths through agricultural landscapes. If you would like to combine culture and physical activity, you will find specific destinations here with different historical connections, trail lengths and elevation changes. This range is precisely what makes the town interesting for planning a trip in which you can weigh up sightseeing, a short loop and a more demanding route.

Iberian History and Notable Buildings

At Puntal dels Llops, you will encounter an Iberian outpost used to defend and monitor the Edetan territory, which was inhabited between the 5th and 2nd centuries BC. Its remains include a wall, a watchtower and rooms opening onto a central street. Admission is free and it is open year-round. Groups must apply for a permit from Olocau Town Hall. Free guided tours are offered year-round from Wednesday to Sunday by prior arrangement.

The Casa de la Senyoria and the Torre de Pardines also give Olocau a distinctly historic character. The monumental complex was classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2001. The Casa de la Senyoria was restored for visitors and houses the Tourist Info office and the museographic collection of Puntal dels Llops. At Castell del Real de Vilaragut, the base of the tower, cisterns and parts of the well-preserved walls can be seen. Archaeological traces, representative architecture and fortified historic sites thus form part of a shared cultural context.

Routes by Length and Difficulty

For planning a day outdoors, the Ruta GeolĂłgica de Olocau provides clear guidance: the circular route is 8 km long, has 170 metres of elevation change and is highly difficult. There is also a shorter option. The Ruta de les Macollades is likewise a circular route, measuring 5.60 km and overcoming 40 metres of elevation change. Its distinctive feature is four clusters of centuries-old carob trees in Olocau.

A much more compact option is the Ruta accesible a la Fuente de la Salud. The path is 300 metres long, accessible and has only a very slight elevation change. The different distances and elevation profiles help you adapt your outing plans to your preferred pace without reducing the landscape to just one way of experiencing it.

Townscape, Agriculture and Living History

Walks through Olocau’s town centre reveal traditional Valencian houses with altarpiece ceramics, doorways, undersides of balconies, wooden doors and wrought-iron balconies. There are also lintels, plinths and wheel guards made of hewn stone. Another chapter in the town’s history is told by the Balsa de l’Amara: it is a former washhouse in Olocau and now serves as an irrigation reservoir for the agricultural area. The Noria dels Simeons is a mule-powered waterwheel that was used to irrigate the nearby fields until the end of the 19th century.

The agricultural surroundings can also be seen on the Ruta Pedralvilla. It passes through farmland with olive and carob trees, including some centuries-old specimens. The Olocau branch of the Camino del Cid is included in the Route of the Conquest of Valencia, providing another historical connection within the regional trails.

Olocau also hosts Iberfesta Olocau, a cultural event with an Iberian theme that has been held since 2013. Through various theatrical scenes, it explains the final moments of Puntal dels Llops. Olocau thus combines visible remains, historic buildings, agricultural traditions and routes that, depending on their length and difficulty, offer different focal points for your stay.
